Mary McDowell Friends School (MMFS) invites applications for a full-time (temporary)  Middle School Educational Technology Integrator beginning December 2022. This is a tempor ry (half-year) FMLA position beginning ASAP through ~ June 2023 

 

Purpose Statement

MMFS strives to support students, faculty, and the educational community in using technology to aid learning. This goes beyond facilitating mandate or recommended assistive technology - an Educational Technology Integrator works to match students and faculty with the best technologies not just to enable the learning process but enrich it. Whenever possible, the goal is to provide d ailed and targeted instruction to assist someone learning the tools/process for creating their content rather than simply gathering needs and creating the content for the student or teacher. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for education, working with Middle School teachers and a team of IT professionals dedicated to educating LD Students.

 

Responsibilities and Priorities

The primary role is defined in three parts:

 

Students

  • Assist in managing student technology issues as promptly as possible as they arise. If this involves coordination with IT due to sof are/hardware needs, communication and follow-through should be detailed and prompt.
  • Support the MS Admin team in resolving student struggles pertaining to social media and online issues.
  • Support the MS Deans and Counseling team with students who need help safely and appropriately navigating the online world. 
  • Work with faculty to ensure that source texts (novels for English and textbooks for other departments) are as accessible as possible (through Audible.com, Learning Ally, or Kurzweil). If source documents are not acces ble, work with assigning faculty to facilitate accessible versions.
  • Facilitate installation, support, and training for students in speech-to-text/text-to-speech needs through Read and Write for Google and Google Apps STT engine.
  • Facilitate installation, support, and training for students to effectively utilize Google Apps for Education, particularly Google Drive and Google Classroom
  • Working knowledge of Chromebooks and a broad-based knowledge of apps/platforms for learning engagement are a plus.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Push in and support a small group in Literacy and Math year long
  • Digital literacy 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, year long
  • Coding to grades 7th and 8th, year long
  • Development and annual revision of curriculum for subject area instruction

Faculty

  • Push into classrooms to observe and support students and faculty technology use.
  • Facilitate installation, support, and training for faculty to utilize available technology solutions effectively
  • Facilitate and manage peripheral technology (interactive whiteboards, scanners, cameras, and projection appliances), which can be used in a classroom setting to create subject matter or enrich the learning experience
  • Facilitate installation, support, and training for faculty to effectively utilize content creation tools integrated with the interactive whiteboards in every classroom. The goal is that every teacher can deliver a mul sensory, accessible curriculum.
  • Support curriculum development and implementation of AT for students
  • Help with general technology literacy, vet, and provide documentation and self-help resources

Families

  • Engage in timely family communication in both a proactive and as-needed manner
  • Participate in parent programs regarding technology, social media, and student life
  • Participate in parent conferences when needed
  • Support the MS Admin team and deans in communication with families regarding behavioral interventions and plans

Community

  • Maintain documentation and resources on ms.marymcdowell.net
  • Help facilitate documentation of student/classroom work for school publications.
  • Collaborate with IT and other division Ed-Tech coordinators on more significant school-wide technology initiatives
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to bring new technology and methods back to MMFS

Technology

  • Assist IT Operations team with level 1 troubleshooting of hardware, software, telecom, and interactive board issues
  • Assist in deploying and maintaining Chromebook fleet and faculty Surface computers
  • Maintain and repair curricular devices - robots, 3d Printers, tech instructional manipulatives, and project kits

 

This role is a full-time, 10-month faculty position. This position reports to the Assistant Director  f Educational Technology and MS Director. The annualized salary range for this position is  0k-70k; pay will be prorated for a half year, depending on actual start date.

  • A BA/BS in a technology education-based field or a BA/BS with a certification in some form of education or technology.
  • A passion for technology, education, and emerging trends, which blend the two.
