The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Network Admin. This is a full time, twelve-month position. The candidate will report to the Director of Technology and help oversee the day to day operations of the Technology Department. Additionally, the successful candidate will work with our current Network Technicians, helping support service calls.
The network is Windows-based and encompasses 40 servers and 1200 clients, most of which are Mac laptops. In addition to the students, the network supports the computing needs of some 200 faculty and staff. Specific responsibilities entail supporting network servers, appliances, switches, network and communication hardware, etc. Additional duties include assisting with scheduled tasks such as backups, operating system updates, configuring and setting up new servers/network equipment; troubleshooting software and hardware problems and assisting with the support of the school’s wired and wireless network. The successful candidate will work closely with end-users to address their questions and technical problems.
Qualifications
- Five plus years of job-related experience in a school environment, supporting a mix of PCs and Macs.
- College degree (Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related fields preferred)
- Microsoft certification(s) required
- Expertise in network administration and security, proactive monitoring, system administration, including system maintenance, workstation support, and back-up procedures.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange 201X required
- Extensive knowledge of HP Procurve network switches (layer 2 and 3), firewalls, proxy servers, wired and wireless networks, backup and anti-virus solutions
- Experience with Aruba wireless, WatchGuard firewall, Barracuda web filter and spam filter, Veritas system recovery, virtual systems including Hyper-V and VMware a plus
- Working knowledge of remote access programs like Citrix and VPN technologies required
- Working knowledge of network services and protocols including but not limited to DNS, DHCP, network segmentation, ACL’s, SMTP required.
- Experience with SQL maintenance and backup preferred.
- Proficient in network storage technologies including Windows clustering, iScsi storage
- Proficient in Windows and Macintosh operating systems and associated network services like print servers, storage servers and web servers.
- Ability to automate processes using scripts (Batch scripts, Windows PowerShell) preferred
- Experience with network monitoring software like Solarwinds APM, NPM, HP IMC preferred
- Familiarity with JAMF Casper suite and other Macintosh OS supporting software is highly preferred
