Network Administrator - IMT Engineering

You will be a part of the IMT Engineering team, an agile development and operations unit responsible for the lifecycle development and support of core technology infrastructure and integration middleware for the University. You will be part of cross-functional teams bringing automation to systems supporting operations.
As a Network Administrator, you will focus on the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of switches, routers, wireless access points, and other core components, firewalls (including authentication, VPN, access controls, IPS/IDS, and other security features), and voice-over IP solutions. Our environment includes multiple campuses, redundant internet connections, significant wifi coverage and services for an APU community of around 15,000 users, as well as connectivity for internet facing hosted and or cloud services.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Technology or job experience related equivalence
- OR a minimum of two years of related experience and/or training
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Cisco certification (CCENT or above) or equivalent
Required Experience
- 2 - 4 years’ experience in managing networks with demonstrated experience in maintaining a Cisco based LAN, WAN (with optimization or QoS), DMZ and Wireless network with high availability in a secure data center environment.
- 2 - 4 years experience in managing VOIP services.
- Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including hardware TCP/IP, and heavy emphasis on WIFI protocols and support.
- Linux and Windows systems administration in a VMWare environment.
- Hands-on networking troubleshooting experience.
- Able to install, support, and troubleshoot server and network hardware components and peripherals.
- Experience in all areas of local and wide area networks management and administration including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, implementation, and user support.
- Experience supporting telecommunications equipment
Primary Duties
- Maintain data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems
- Assists in maintenance, problem solving, and providing network and remote connectivity hardware/software support.
- Responding quickly and professionally to client needs, taking independent and proactive action to ensure highest quality of service and maximum customer satisfaction.
- Maintains LAN user documentation, including hardware/software applications, support logs and other related information
- Analyzes and troubleshoots the network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems
- Install, supports and maintains both physical and virtual network servers and appliances
- Researches, analyzes, monitors, troubleshoots and resolves server or data network problems; develops, maintains and implements network support
- Coordinate and communicate scheduled maintenance and deployments affecting services, with internal and external stakeholders, according to change and release management.
- Respond quickly to service disruptions according to on-call schedule, updating according to protocol, and documenting the event, participating in positive post-mortems, and determining root cause, and resultant service improvements.
- Assists other technology staff as requested including performing scheduled network tasks, monitoring network servers, and providing internet and intranet user support and specialized training
- Coordinating with providers to implement and ensure the proper operations of internet and Wide Area Networks. Able to escalate and work with vendors and service providers for problem resolution or planning.
- Maintaining proper records of hardware, software, and network configurations
- Taking ownership and actively seeking out new information and keeping up to date with the latest in networking technology, including collaborating with team members, contacting product vendors as needed, etc.Travel to other APU locations as required
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor based on department needs.

- Theoretical and practical understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, NAT, DNS, DHCP, VLANS, VPN, 802.1x, TLS, etc.
- Cat 5/6, Fiber, cabling standards and experience.
- General security interest, concepts, and experience.
- Understanding of the OSI Network model and ability to apply it in troubleshooting situations.

- Level of Independence: In order to function effectively, this person must have a high level of independence, show a high level of initiative, have the ability to make decisions, and be highly motivated. This must be done in a consistent with the team management structure and culture that is employed by IMT.
- In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.
- To enable IMT services to operate normally at all times, this person is required to be available by telephone for management, consultation, and liaison with support, development and technical staff after normal working hours and on weekends. This may require considerable onsite presence to manage emergency situations.

Compensation
- Grade 11: $28.53 - $37.09/hour
