General Description |
This position is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining campus LAN, smart classroom computers, printers, and A/V equipment in both hardware and software environments. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining: local area networks (LANs) (all cabling such as Cat6, Fiber), campus video surveillance equipment, A/V equipment, and helping with development of smart classrooms. Job duties may also include assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of the campus telephone and cable television systems.

Essential Job Duties |

Assist with network infrastructure installation and maintenance;
-
Perform telephone infrastructure work;
-
Help design, install, configure, and maintain all A/V components for all instructional locations;
-
Maintain video security equipment;
-
Troubleshoot software/hardware issues;
-
Analyze and work to solve LAN performance problems;
-
Maintain inventory of campus classroom computers, printers, telephone, network, and video equipment;
-
Work with users, network team, and systems team to troubleshoot and repair university-owned printers;
-
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties |

Adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work is required;

Read literature, attend conferences, participate in training, and perform other related activities in order to understand the leading edge developments in IT-related fields;

Represent the department and UNA at a variety of on-campus meetings or off-campus technical conferences.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities |
-
Knowledge of computer/computer accessories, printer, and small electrical component repair (soldering);
-
Knowledge of network design/function, network cabling design/function/installation/maintenance;
-
Knowledge of general audio/video (A/V) design/installation and systems including, but not limited to, video surveillance, web-based video cameras, television cable, and telephone/voicemail systems;
-
Knowledge of methods of video projection, audio amplification, and video/audio recording;
-
Knowledge of general construction practices to design equipment installation for new/existing building spaces;
-
Knowledge of A/V over IP including, but not limited to, HD compression, RS232 control, and IR communication;
-
An understanding of software/hardware compatibility issues within a networked architecture;
-
A basic understanding of network communication protocols and topologies;
-
A basic understanding of the operating principles of the Internet;
-
Ability to use a work order system;
-
Ability to maintain confidentiality;
-
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
-
Strong customer service skills, willingness to assist others, and the ability to coordinate well with other departments/personnel;

Ability to work within time constraints and adapt/upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions;

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions;

Ability to communicate effectively to instruct or train others through explanation and/or demonstration;

Minimum Qualifications |
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree OR at least three years of related experience is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations |
A++, Network +, or other related network or A/V certification is preferred.
