Network Technician
DEFINITION:
Under the supervision of the Director of Technology, the Network Technician will assist in the maintenance of the District network hardware and software; install, service, and repair existing and future technology equipment; and perform related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Manages and maintains the various computer networks; assembles and configures technology equipment; develops and maintains schematics ( maps, layout diagrams, etc.) of LANs and connections to WANs; installs new/updates of District licensed software; able to diagnose technology equipment and networks for malfunctions; services and repairs District computers, related hardware and other technology; maintains warranty records of all technology equipment and an inventory of repair parts; obtains, reviews, and maintains manufacturer’ manuals and other technical literature; recommends appropriate technology equipment for purchase; installs and/or supervises installation of networks and technology.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Network topology and protocols, computers and related computer hardware. Related technology such as VCRs, camcorders, overhead displays, etc. Practices and procedures of mechanical, electrical and electronic repair work. Electronics and electrical theory and practice applicable to equipment used and repaired. Proper tools, materials and equipment used in the servicing and repair of computers and other technology. Safe work practices.
Ability to:
Perform necessary servicing and repair of computers and related computer hardware. Operate electronic measuring and testing equipment. Read and interpret electronic schematic diagrams, factory repair manuals and other technical literature. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Work with minimum supervision. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent to graduation from the 12th grade. Three or four years of recent experience in the field of computer repair and service of computers and related computer hardware. Preference will be given to those with college courses in computer science and related fields. An AA degree is highly desirable.
EQUIPMENT & LICENSE:
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license
• Network certification desirable
• Criminal justice fingerprint clearance
PHYSICAL EFFORT/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Moderate physical effort with frequent standing or walking; use of medium weight tools with some heavy lifting of machines (up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance), and equipment; primarily indoor work environment.
SALARY: Classified Salary – Range 40
