Successful teaching applicants will be experienced teachers who are willing to design dynamic, student-centered classes that go beyond the textbook. They will participate in Harkness trainings, since this is the primary pedagogical method used at The Lawrenceville School and thus at Lawrenceville Summer Scholars. We are seeking teachers interested in growing as educators by setting goals, observing classes, being observed and receiving feedback and evaluations. A teacher will teach one or two courses per session, be expected to attend a weekly faculty meeting, and to write a mid-session and end of session prose comment for each student by the date announced during opening faculty meetings. Teachers of math will work with students to cover a year’s curriculum for four hours, five days a week for six weeks, with ten minutes’ break each hour; most other teachers will have students for three hours a day, five days a week for three weeks, though we do offer several English and writing courses that last six weeks. In addition to designing and implementing class plans, teachers are responsible for ensuring students’ safety and medical well-being during the hours of class; teachers will receive training as to how to aid students with life-threatening allergies, in the event of an emergency. The time teachers spend in mandatory opening meetings, on class preparation, grading, comment writing, meeting with students outside of class or communicating with families or the administrative team is included in the salary. A teacher willing to help to chaperone on weekend trips, to mentor an intern or to help manage daily logistics such as student drop-off and pick-up will receive additional compensation. We will be holding classes on the 4th of July and are not able to accommodate any faculty who need to take days off for vacations, etc, during the dates of employment.

We are seeking highly motivated teachers to teach one or more course from July 4 - July 22 and/or July 25 - August 12. Training dates during the week of June 27 – July 1 TBA.
