Senior Network Engineer
Summary:
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the overall design, maintenance, and security of the University network and enterprise systems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain and support various Internet Service Technologies including routing and switching in LAN/WAN and wireless networks.

Design and plan the networking infrastructure, including the evaluation of new technologies; develop detailed network specifications and adhere to standards.

Install and configure new network components.
-
Support and assist in maintaining server operating systems and applications.
-
Ensure the integrity of the network infrastructure by performing monitoring and proactive maintenance.

Install and support wireless network including work at remote locations.
-
Contribute to the development, maintenance, and implementation of disaster recovery processes for operating systems, databases, networks, configuration files, servers and software applications.

Develop and recommend strategies for network growth, security, and enhancements by maximizing functionality of network equipment such as routers, firewalls, bridges, gateways, switches, and wireless.

Interface with vendors and suppliers to ensure adequate delivery and maintenance of equipment and services.

Perform network analysis and capacity planning.
-
Manage the firewall design and installation process and keep the IT Team up to date with latest security vulnerabilities.

Provide documentation and training to internal departments to facilitate day-to-day operations.

Provide mentoring and guidance to junior team members.

Assist in the creation of processes and procedures for network operations.

Maintain library of associated materials for all equipment, processes, and procedures.

Design, install, and test network topologies to support Internet and other data transport channels.

Contribute to development and administration of network backup and recovery plan to maintain LAN/WAN network systems operation.

Identify and correct faults and provide resolution of complex problem tickets escalated from other technicians.

Serve as on-call escalation for issue resolution.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or analytical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Five years of experience designing, deploying, and supporting LAN / WAN infrastructure required.

Two years of experience of enterprise level network security maintenance and implementation required.

Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, QoS, and other network technologies
-
Extensive experience and knowledge in: IP Subnetting, VPN, Wireless, firewalls, routers, VoIP, Network Design

Extensive knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
-
Strong knowledge of network security and firewall policies including in-depth analysis of access lists and activity logs
-
Experience with Cisco switches and routers in an enterprise environment - device and configuration management
-
Experience with Checkpoint firewalls - proactive alerting and monitoring

Some level of scripting in VBScript, PowerShell, etc.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

CCNA, CCIP, or CCNP certifications (preferred)
