Summary

This position coordinates the design, development, maintenance, and accessibility of critical public/private University websites and applications that comprise the University’s marketing web portfolio. The Senior Web Services Manager leads teams and participates in projects that support the University’s marketing web portfolio, including supervising staff and managing myriad web projects from start to finish. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and works closely with marketing staff and other University personnel to advance University marketing objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Lead the design, development, maintenance, and accessibility of the University’s marketing web portfolio, ensuring adherence to the brand style guide and web/accessibility standards, including application of mobile and responsive design.

  2. Manage and prioritize updates, changes, and additions to the University’s marketing web portfolio.

  3. Participate in all web project phases engaged by University marketing staff and internal clients.

  4. Administer one or more web servers and related hardware and software systems to support the University’s marketing web portfolio.

  5. Advise Director of Marketing regarding content strategies and methods to maintain current content across the entire marketing web portfolio.

  6. Collaborate and work proactively with University marketing staff and other internal clients to assess and implement technical opportunities that advance University marketing objectives.

  7. Serve as subject matter expert for web technologies within the marketing division.

  8. Optimize site/application content and structure for best possible search engine rankings, performance, and mobile compatibility. Monitor and report on traffic analytics for the University’s marketing web portfolio.

  9. Liaise with University information technology services department to support marketing objectives.

  10. Lead project planning meetings with internal University clients and external vendors to identify scope and deadline requirements.

  11. Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high standards of excellence, conformity to the University brand style guide and positive, cooperative attitude.

  12. Manage vendor relationships and serve as main technical contact for external services and applications.

  13. Supervise the web services team by managing/reviewing work assignments/priorities and fostering professional development.

  14. Meet project deadlines set by supervisor. Proactively communicate with supervisor when completion by deadline in jeopardy.

  15. Share and consistently express division’s commitment to express Christ’s attitude of service, excellence, humility and dignity in each interaction with University clients and external vendors.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Expert-level skills with following:

  • Web Browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc.)

  • Web content management systems (concrete5, WordPress, etc.)

  • Web front-end languages (HTML, CSS, etc.)

  • Web design/development methodologies: MVC architecture, responsive design, prototyping, etc.

  • Relational database management systems (MySQL, MSSQL, etc.)

  • Software version control systems (Git)

  • Graphics and document software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)

  • Proficient-level skills with the following: 

  • Web programming languages (PHP, JavaScript, etc.).

  • Web development tools; knowledge of web frameworks, CSS preprocessors, etc.

  • Web server operating systems; working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server.

  • Standard workplace applications: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Proficient-level written and verbal communications skills.

  • Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects.

  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.

  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. 

  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university with a minimum of two years of professional website management or related experience; Master’s degree strongly preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience; thorough knowledge of HTML/CSS, content management systems, modern web development best practices, and higher education environment.
