The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing and creating highly interactive online, hybrid, and face to face learning content for TU Harrisburg educational programs. This may include content for training programs, graduate and undergraduate courses, or grant projects, as needed. The Sr. Instructional Designer will prioritize and handle multiple projects in various programs of a highly technical nature, and is accountable for the delivery of work by prescribed deadlines. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Programs, and works directly together with program staff, trainers, instructors and faculty to collaboratively plan, design, develop and revise online course materials as well as face to face training materials.

 

The Sr. Instructional Designer assists with curriculum enhancements and development of face to face and web based courses and trainings, provides instructional and program design for the development and support of online courses, designs training materials, training modules and teaching aides. Responsible for assisting faculty, program managers and staff in the design of online coursework, programs and instructional practices, development of learning resources and re-visioning of courses and course segments to electronic delivery methods. This position also assists with the collection and management of relevant program and training data and ensures that the website is up to date at all times. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience in instructional technology, education, information technology, information sciences, course design, curriculum design, e-learning, training or similar role curriculum design in related field. Experience with online course management systems and tools. Experience with graphic and multimedia authoring software and website design software. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Required Skills and Abilities:
*Comprehensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles applicable to both online and instructor-led training programs. 
*Ability to produce training materials in a variety of formats using the latest industry tools.
*Knowledge of modern computing, networking and communications systems and skill in use of technology applications.
*Ability to gather and analyze data from various sources, identify issues/trends and assist in development of plans accordingly.
*Proficient written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills.
*Must be detail oriented and organized.
*Ability to apply and explain best practices of instructional design. 
*Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property standards for course development.
*Knowledge of ADA requirements in online course delivery.
*Demonstrated understanding of different operating systems, Windows and Mac OS along with experience working hands-on with laptops and PC's.
*Ability to design curriculum, courses, trainings in keeping with best practices and techniques for adult learners. 
*Strong customer service orientation along with the ability to effectively interact and problem solve with diverse groups of individuals.
*Commitment to high quality in the development and maintenance of training materials that are user friendly, effective and appealing.
*Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
*Ability to prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred:
*Experience in a higher education environment.
*Master’s degree in instructional technology, education, information technology, curriculum design, or related field.
*Experience with Canvas, Blackboard and Moodle.
*Real-time web conferencing experience with WebEx.
