Sr. Manager for Data Analysis & Integration
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services (KARMS) the Sr. Manager/Head of DAI is a key senior managerial position within KARMS and within the Libraries' Department Managers Group. The position provides leadership, vision, strategic direction, and expertise for a staff of 6 FTE professionals. The staff is responsible for implementation, documentation, and routinization of automated processing workflows; design and application of tools for data extraction, remediation, enhancement, and aggregation; monitoring, administration, maintenance, and configuration of the library ILS, discovery, and other systems; management and integration of e-resource metadata across library systems; and development, administration, and maintenance of the Division of Libraries' data warehouse including oversight of the ingest, extraction, and delivery data in support of library services and assessment. The incumbent will closely collaborate with colleagues across the Division of Libraries, especially colleagues in the Knowledge Access Design and Development, Metadata Production and Management, Resource Management, Archival Collections Management, Library Information Technology Services, and User Experience departments. The incumbent will serve as a partner in the educational mission of NYU by establishing strong relationships with faculty and other colleagues, and provide responsive and innovative information services.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Library and Information Science or any other relevant degree.
Preferred Education:
Master's degree in Computer Science, Library and Information Science, or equivalent experience preferred
Required Experience:
Five or more years increasingly responsible leadership experience in a library, or related research setting. Must include experience supervising staff. ? Experience with integrated library systems and/or metadata discovery systems, with emphasis on application administration, batch metadata processing, and XML parsing; Experience in managing or integrating with unified index discovery layers such as EDS, Summon, etc.; Experience with one or more of the suite of Ex Libris products, SFX, Primo, Aleph, etc.; ? Experience working in a library setting with technical skills in the following environments and programming languages such as: Linux/Unix server, SQL and other databases including Oracle and SQL Server, Visual Basic, .Net, Python, Ruby, PERL and other programming languages. Demonstrated experience with XML, XSLT, JSON, JavaScript, shell scripts, APIs, Git, and data visualization tools.
Preferred Experience:
Preferred experience in library technical services or system administration in an academic or other research library. Experience supervising a technical team is highly desirable.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of metadata standards and frameworks such as MARC, Dublin Core, FRBR, RDA, BIBFRAME; knowledge of library technology protocols such as OpenURL, OAI-PMH, Z39.50, and SRU/W Demonstrated leadership, innovative problem-solving, and a strong commitment to service excellence. Evidence of success in introducing and managing change in complex environments. Outstanding organizational and analytical skills to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with a fluctuating workload, and competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain close and productive working relationships with colleagues and constituents. Ability and willingness to mentor staff, encourage professional growth and strengthen cross-departmental collaborations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including writing and public speaking to various constituencies. Ability to present and communicate departmental work and goals to technical and non-technical audiences at NYU and throughout our various library communities.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with ArchivesSpace, Aeon, Lucene, Solr, Blacklight, and/or Hydra preferred. Formal training in one or more project management methodologies or experience as a project manager preferred
