STEAM Coordinator, K-8, and MS Science Teacher, 6-8
Student-centered Manhattan independent school with a Constructivist educational outlook, a focus on students' intellectual, moral and personal development, and a strong culture of faculty reflection, collaboration, and professional growth, is looking for a thoughtful educator to fill a full-time position involving teaching and school-wide coordination.
Science teaching Grade Levels: 6-8
STEAM Coordinator: Grade Levels: K-8
Time Frame: Beginning September 2016
a) STEAM Coordinator Description:
· Lead school-wide STEAM initiative
o Coach teachers in STEAM thinking, teaching, learning, and content
o Model STEAM instruction, planning, and implementation
o Integrate STEAM within school curriculum
o Implement best practices in inter-disciplinary teaching and curriculum design
o Plan and implement special programs, such as field trips, school wide STEAMfest and MakerFaire
· Collaborate with colleagues on the STEAM leadership team and in the Professional Development Working Group to increase STEAM thinking and learning opportunities
· Oversee substantive STEAM budget
· Envision and lead change effort to promote 21st century skill development
b) Middle School Teaching Description:
· Teach middle school science, grades 6-8
· Design, implement, and teach inquiry-based science curriculum for middle school grades.
Experience/Background:
· At least 3 years of classroom teaching
· Appropriate knowledge of science, relevant to grades K-8
· Training in and/or experience with teaching elementary and middle school-aged students.
· Experience teaching a student-centered, inquiry-oriented, hands-on science curriculum
· Appropriate knowledge of STEAM, relevant to grades K-8
· Knowledge of, and experience with, design challenges
· Interest and willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment
