The San Domenico STEAM program aims to engage students in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics through the use of Technology, in a creative and Artistic mindset.
San Domenico is committed to excellence in education and preparing the next generation of global leaders. The STEAM program prepares students with the skills to respond with integrity and creativity to the needs of the 21st Century and beyond. The mission of this program is twofold:
1) to incorporate STEAM across K-12 in order to prepare our students for careers and participation in a rapidly changing world, and
2) articulate and document the STEAM curricular goals/experience for all of K-12.
By infusing Design Thinking, PBL, and STEAM activities in all content areas, we will instill students with the ability to problem-solve using a balance of analytical, thoughtful, and creative processes while collaborating with others.
Position Summary
The duties and responsibilities of the STEAM specialist involve instruction directly related to STEAM and computer science in our 3D Design & Innovation Lab. Related duties shall be those inspired by the ISTE Standards for Coaches and those assigned by the Director of Design, Engineering, and Educational Technology.
This is a full-time position that involves teaching students, designing and articulating curriculum for a K-12 STEAM experience, and collaborating with faculty/staff on special projects. The STEAM Specialist will establish relationships and continuity between school levels to strengthen our K-12 identity.
Instruction and Integration
The STEAM teacher will:

Demonstrate the ability to develop, model, deliver, manage and assess rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math

Demonstrate the ability to create and implement strategies for weaving STEAM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula from grades K through 8
-
Work in partnership with teachers and staff, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, STEAM, and online tools

Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the connection between technology, computer science, and other fields of study

Develop special programming and competitive opportunities to provide additional enrichment experiences for students and families
Leadership and Professional Growth
The STEAM teacher will:

Plan, model, co-teach, and coach classroom teachers, using research-based science and technology instructional strategies
-
Develop community partnerships to enhance classroom learning and create authentic STEAM experiences
-
Provide engaging STEAM-related enrichment to increase interest, experience, and develop STEAM mindset (e.g., robotics, science club, etc.)
-
Promote STEAM awareness and engagement through targeted partnerships and activities (STEAM Exploration Nights, Student Competitions, etc.) that enhance academic achievement across the curriculum

Participate in PLCs and plan with colleagues around new and innovative approaches for implementing instructional activities
Responsibilities
-
Assist with design and implementation of STEAM learning opportunities that integrate with existing curriculum and instruction, K-12
-
Assess, refine, and assist in implementing a strategic vision for Computer Science Principles/Coding/Robotics as part of our school’s overall STEAM education including:

Teach Computer Science or Engineering at the high school level
-
Teach an elective at the middle school level
-
Teach specialist-led rotation at the lower school level
-
Teach both block and text coding
-

Work closely with the Director of IT and ET to evaluate curriculum and pedagogy, and coordinate the overall STEAM teaching and learning program

Assist with PD experiences for faculty in areas of design, engineering, and educational technology, supporting them in the exploration of innovative and purposeful STEAM-focused integration

Evaluate new technologies and stay current with emerging trends and best practices in STEAM by participating in technology-related professional development opportunities including self-study, workshops, and conferences on school, district, state, and national levels
Requirements
Position Qualifications
-
Demonstrated background working with students in STEAM
-
Experience coaching teachers and/or leading professional development workshops
-
Experience (or familiarity with) tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, autocad, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Codecademy, Sphero, Tynker, BeeBot, Parrot MiniDrone
-
Willingness to learn other design or engineering skills outside of the digital realm
-
Effective written, verbal, and technology-based communication skills
-
Clearly communicates technical concepts to non-technical people
-
Highly effective listening, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
-
Fluent in G Suite / Google Apps for Education
-
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

Bachelor’s degree required
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits package, including: medical, dental, AD&D, Life, 403(b) plan with match, daily lunch.
