STEM/Robotics Teacher

Harvard-Westlake, a coed, independent school in Los Angeles serving nearly 1600 students in grades 7-12, seeks to hire an exceptional and highly qualified educator for a full-time position in STEM fields at the Middle School (grades 7-9). The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or robotics.  Candidates should be versatile enough to teach an established, team-designed core course such as middle school science or mathematics, but also have the vision and skill to build a cohesive and committed robotics team or after-school engineering program.  Teaching responsibilities may vary from year to year based on enrollment.  A full-time position will consist of either three or four class sections plus two or three afternoon commitments per week and some Saturdays for robotics development and competitions. Candidates will also be prepared to integrate themselves in the life of the school and coordinate with the upper school robotics program.

Qualifications:

• Minimum -- Bachelor's degree in STEM-related field; MA preferred;

• Experience and expertise teaching computer programming, math, science, and/or robotics;

• Flexibility and availability for after-school and weekend commitments;

• Demonstrated collegiality, collaboration, teamwork, and organization;

• Ability to communicate concepts in a clear and concise manner to students and foster a safe, innovative, and creative learning environment;

• Capability to organize a substantial work space, develop and stay within a budget, and maintain tools and materials;

• Zeal for working with adolescents of all skill levels;

• Enthusiasm to become part of our vibrant school community, broadly engaging with students and colleagues, and attending events outside their field of responsibility.

This position is full-time, starting in August for the 2019-20 school year
