Position Information
BASIC FUNCTION:
The purpose of this position is to analyze and implement computer system requirements by defining and or analyzing system problems. Additionally, this position requires the applicant to design and test standards and solutions.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include executives, administrators and employees from all divisions and departments within the university structure. External contacts include representatives of government agencies, colleges and universities, professional groups, vendors and the general public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Expands or modifies system to serve new purposes or improve work flow.

Tests, maintains, and monitors computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.

Develops, documents and revises system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.

Provides staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems.

Reviews and analyzes computer printouts and performance indicators to locate code problems, and corrects errors by correcting codes.

Consults with management to ensure agreement on system principles.

Confers with clients regarding the nature of the information processing or computation needs a computer program is to address.

Reads manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn how to develop programs that meet staff and user requirements.

Coordinates and link the computer systems within an organization to increase compatibility and so information can be shared.

Determines computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter system.
CORE COMPETENCIES:

Comprehensive knowledge of UNIX, Linux (OEL, Redhat, CentOS & Ubuntu), and Windows servers in production, development, and internal environments.

Administer the cloud environment, including performance monitoring, scaling, operations planning, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance.

Experience with multi-tenant, private and hybrid cloud environments including Azure, AWS, OpenStack, Docker Containers, Kubernetes, and Google Container Engine

Experience with automation using standard tools (Puppet or Chef) and scripting in Python, Ruby, BASH, and/or PowerShell.

Knowledge of Windows server Systems --Installation, configuration, patching, optimizing operation system software, application software. Install and configure server hardware such as memory, hard drives in a physical and virtual environment.

Experience with Vmware 5.5, Vmware 6.0 Hyper-v, Active Directory (AD), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Service (DNS), and Exchange 0365.

Working knowledge of Storage EMC (Vmax/VNXe3150/XtremIO), Backup EMC (Avamar/DataDomain), and EMC Vplex Replication (a plus).

Ability to evaluate, select, and learn new software and operating systems; ability to identify and resolve problems, including hardware and software problems.

Ability to work with vendors, schedule and perform routine maintenance/services on O/S and hardware, and perform operating systems upgrades.

Competence in both oral and written English.

Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or closely related field and minimum of 3-6 years of relevant experience. Ten years of related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational qualifications. 3+ years of experience supporting all stages of the Cloud deployment lifecycle, from development to integration and operations. Flexible work schedule is a requirement for this position. Interested candidates must be able to participate in on-call rotations for off hours support and maintenance.
