Job Description

The School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is seeking a talented, self‐starter to join our IT team as a System Support Analyst Senior which involves working closely with other IT staff and several student workers. A successful applicant will provide support and provide excellent customer service for a wide range of faculty, staff and student computers within SEMTE. The Systems Support Analyst Senior performs a variety of activities necessary to provide desktop and software application support to end users to ensure proper and effective operations. Work typically involves a combination of providing expert advice and troubleshooting on one or more operating systems, hardware, and software products, administering and maintaining shared‐use systems, communicating with users and user groups on technology topics, providing instruction, and evaluating, recommending, and installing technological solutions to new problems or situations.

Essential Duties

Provides IT support to SEMTE; provides technical support by managing help desk tickets, attends meetings, assists with updating department policies and processes, creates security baselines, works with faculty and staff to assess IT needs.
Provides professional and positive customer service.
Provides recommendations for hardware purchases.
Provides classroom server management.
Performs backups, updates and recovery on IT equipment.
Ensures that all IT equipment is tagged, put into inventory, setup and configured, encrypted and operating appropriately.
Diagnoses, repairs, and cleans a variety of audio visual, video, computer and/or electronic equipment.
Installs, setups, configures and secure Mac and PC's, laptops, AV equipment, tablets, printers and mobile devices in distributed secured networked environment.
Deploys packaged applications and/or manual installation using Engineering's enterprise SCCM technology or CASPER.
Tests software and hardware for usability and compliance.
Installs and configures software on a variety of devices and across platforms (MAC, PC, and Linux).
Coordinates classroom and new hire videos, provides AV support.
Deploys new systems and relocates systems as needed.
Performs new hire IT setup and orientation.
Creates and updates documents including scripts for system management.
Conducts Hardware Inventory and Updates inventory database.
Builds, packages, and tests unique school applications.
Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures to identify appropriate corrective measures.
Provides Active Directory organizational Unit management.
Acts as Vendor Contact for hardware repairs.
Ensures software licensing is authorized and in compliance for use and installation, except in the classrooms.
Provides end user training on popular applications.
Supervises IT student workers.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field and six (6) years experience providing diagnostic and trouble-shooting support in a client server, cross platform environment, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with cross platform environments to include Linux or Ubuntu, Windows and Mac Systems.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with PC and Mac Hardware, SCCM Knowledge.
Experience in working in higher education environment
Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and best practices in IT.
Experience with installing, configuring, imaging, maintaining and troubleshooting Windows 7/10, and OS X systems. Linux experience a plus.
Experience using most of the following deployment systems and tools: (SCCM, MDT, Active Directory, Group Policies, and TCP/IP networking).
Demonstrated Knowledge of System Encryption for laptops, desktops or mobile devices using Bitlocker, MBAM and file vault for OS X.
Demonstrated Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting languages is a plus.
Demonstrated Knowledge with virtualization technologies such as: Vmware, Parallels, and Virtual box.
Experience with a variety of standard computer software including ( Microsoft Office 2013/16, Matlab, Visual Studio, and Acrobat…)
Experience with basic project management (i.e., organize and schedule tasks, prioritize).
Experience troubleshooting TCP/IP Errors, ability to use NSLookup, IPConfig, NETStat or tools like infoblox.
Demonstrated knowledge resolving hardware and software problems; identifying problem sources and methods of solution.
Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking
Frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds
Regularly required to work in cramped and enclosed areas and exposure to variations in temperature when deploying equipment
Receive regular review of completed tasks
