Teacher, Middle School Computer Science & Robotics
As Woodward Academy continues to expand our student offerings in the areas of STEM & STEAM, we are seeking a dynamic robotics & computer science teacher in grades 7 & 8. Primary responsibilities include teaching several computer science courses and coaching our middle school VEX robotics team. Course topics may include Robotics and Engineering, Game and App Design, Coding, Applied Computer Science and STEM/STEAM.
Specific Duties Include:

Work closely with the middle school administration, K-12 department chair, MS STEM Instructor and MS Instructional Technology Specialists to continually refine and update the middle school computer science curriculum and offerings.

Lead and expand MS engineering opportunities, including VEX robotics competition team, AutoCAD, 3D printing, and other avenues.

Empower students to incorporate the exploration and discovery of their passions and interests while they formulate ideas to identify and solve real-world problems.

Model and incorporate contemporary pedagogies such as design thinking, problem-based learning, and blended learning, within real-world contexts, to enhance students abilities with higher-level problem solving and critical thinking.

Design student experiences intended to foster student proficiency as a digital age learner into the curriculum.

Intentionally address the new ISTE Student Standards ( iste.org/standards) which include empowered learner, digital citizen, knowledge constructor, innovative designer, computational thinker, creative communicator, global collaborator.

Collaborate with middle school classroom teachers to develop cross-curricular experiences.

Perform additional duties as assign by the middle school administration.
Required Skills:

Engage in continuous professional development during the school year and in the summer to stay abreast of current technologies, pedagogies and trends in the areas of computer science, STEM and STEAM.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy that are essential to building strong partnerships.

Strong organizational and classroom management skills

Ability and willingness to contribute to the Academy through coaching or other cocurricular activities
- Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework or teaching experience in robotics, computational thinking, computer science, engineering, STEM/STEAM, game development, etc.
- 2+ years of successful Middle School teaching preferred
- Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The Teacher, Middle School Robotics & Computer Science position is a salaried, exempt, ten-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits are substantial.
