Teaching Faculty - Engineering Technology (Data Center)
Basic Function |
The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. To accomplish this NOVA faculty are expected to excel in teaching strategies and classroom management that fully engage the student whether or not in a classroom, laboratory or online platform, and to engage students in individual conferences and related activities. NOVA faculty will help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity, thus building stronger citizens and enhancing the community. |

Duties and Responsibilities |
NOVA is seeking to hire a highly motivated and industry experienced faculty member to provide program leadership and quality instruction in NOVA’s newly developed two-year program in Data Center Operations (DCO). The DCO program is a specialization of NOVA’s Engineering Technology A.A.S. program and has been aligned to the needs of Northern Virginia’s data center technology workforce. The program has a strong emphasis on the development of skills and knowledge related to electricity, electronics, building automation, data center infrastructure, operation and management. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology or related field or Associate’s degree in a related field and industry experience. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. The successful candidate must be willing to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Experience in data center operations and management. Master’s degree in the teaching field. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. Active certifications in field of expertise. Experience with curriculum development. Experience in academic administration and program management. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Comfortable and experienced working with electricity and a broad range of electronics and industrial technology. Required to teach introductory level skills as well as more advanced technical concepts and should have advanced skills and industry experience in technology-focused competency areas. These areas may include industrial facilities management and maintenance, HVAC maintenance and repair, electromechanical equipment operation and repair, pneumatics and motor controlled systems (single-phase and three-phase systems), system integration with VFD, PLC, OIT, HMI and SCADA systems, building automation/data center infrastructure management systems and/or the operation of a mission critical facility. |
