The Technology/Innovation Specialist is an essential member of a learning community which is comprised of students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Duties will include technology integration, STEAM, design thinking, and innovation across grade levels and supporting students and staff in basic technology needs.

The Technology/Innovation Specialist is primarily a teaching position focused on immersing students in problem solving, design thinking, technology, and hands-on creating in our media center and makerspaces/innovation labs with the goal of addressing the needs of 21st century learners and preparing them for their future.

This position requires a self-motivated teacher of children and adults alike, with a passion for discovery through technology and innovation. The Technology/Innovation Specialist plays a key role in furthering the mission of New Horizon School.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Teaching (Technology, Electives)

Plan and implement lessons for grades 4 through 8 to support the technology education program under the guidance and direction of the Technology Director.
Assess and document student progress for middle school classes.
Support students in K-8 in digital citizenship including the ethical and effective use of information including reference and research materials and sophisticated electronic resources and following established policies, laws (including copyright laws), principles of intellectual freedom, and ethical behavior.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning environment.
Develop a nurturing rapport with students.
Innovation

Collaborate with teachers to plan and integrate STEM initiatives in all curricular areas.
Encourage and empower students' and teachers’ innovation, creativity, design thinking, and problem solving skills.
Provide structured hands-on project-based learning opportunities that interconnect STEM
Educational Technology Support

Collaborate with teachers to integrate media resources, research, and technology skills into classrooms to meet Common Core and ISTE standards.
Introduce and model new technologies that more effectively support the learning environment.
Tech Support

Assist students and teachers with use of technology and Web 2.0 tools and perform basic technology troubleshooting on desktops, laptops, and other devices on campus.
Assist the Technology Director in supporting the school’s technology infrastructure including hardware and software.
Additional Responsibilities

Interact effectively with parents and respond to all parent communication in a professional manner.
Serve on committees involved with design of learning activities.
Enhance professional skills and knowledge by participating in various professional organizations and workshops.
Participate in school events, student activities, and curriculum development.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Reporting Relationship:

The Technology/Innovation Specialist reports to the Head of School and works closely with the Middle School and Technology Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in technology, engineering, education, or related field
Experience working with children in a school setting
Strong technology and design thinking skills
Knowledge of the following software applications is preferred: Microsoft Office suite, iMovie or other video editing software, LEGO Mindstorms EV3 software, and Scratch
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to establish professional and respectful relationships with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff
Ability to support the school’s mission and work in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in the above-mentioned fields
One or more years of work experience in related fields
