Technology Assistant
Job Summary |
This is a part-time position eligible to work up to 29 hours per week at the discretion of the employee’s supervisor. Sets up and deploys technology for workshops and meetings; assists users with utilization of Center’s available hardware and software. Maintains inventory of software licensing; tracks and controls loaning of Center technology equipment to other units in the School. Ensures that shipping materials and supplies are available in stock all the time to assist those in the shipping section, maintaining shipping materials inventory. Maintains and updates the content of Center website and monitors supporting software for the purpose of ensuring that online resources and technology materials are available at all times to the public; reports any dead links or gaps in website to Center leadership, and makes appropriate edits after consultation. Provides technical support for Center-specific applications for client support to faculty, students and staff, university departments and clients from other inter-departmental groups; performs simple installations of computer software and hardware not covered by campus or College IT offices; maintains complete inventory of computers and related hardware. Acts as interface between the Center and school-supporting IT for any support or technical issues involving the Center, as well as following up with school-supporting or outside IT support vendors on the resolution of reported issues; provides weekly updates to the Center Technologist. Provides assistance to the Director and the Associate Instructors on the appropriate use of software applications for the purpose of enhancing the classroom curriculum, preparation for the teaching, support the class technology topics and needs. Assists in the coordination and management of technology resources of the center, which includes but is not limited to large screen display units, digital cameras, scanners, LCDProjectors, laser disc players, video equipment, and laptop computers. Also assists in conference planning aspects involving technology. Develops graphics and touches-up photos as needed for the Center’s newsletters and web pages. |

Required Qualifications |
REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED and three years of experience in an office environment. Familiarity with operating desktop computer systems and peripherals from within the last five years on market. Basic knowledge of recent desktop operation across Windows and Mac operating systems; ability to familiarize self with and observe rules, policies and procedures of Indiana University, along with relevant state and federal regulations. Ability to create content using Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator or other photo editing and design programs. Strong candidates will have the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, along with the ability to interact and communicate with colleagues and stakeholders from a broad set of backgrounds. Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills are a necessity for success in this position. The selected candidate must also have a demonstrable understanding of the set-up and operation of video recording equipment. Working knowledge knowledge of standard office equipment including desktop printer/scanners, computerized projectors, video cameras, and laptop computers; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Outlook, and Excel programs. Attention to detail, as well as a personable and outgoing attitude. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Two years of experience in a college or university setting; knowledge of Indiana University central systems: including Canvas, One.IU, IU List, SharePoint, etc.; experience with video production/editing; previous experience with computer database software; knowledge of layout programs; experience with IU framework CMS, other web CMS, or willingness to learn in these frameworks; Interest in language learning, and/or the languages and cultures of Africa. |
Working Conditions / Physical Demands |
Some reaching for and carrying of materials weighing up to 30 pounds will be infrequently required. This position requires the ability to work seated at a desktop computer workstation for several hours at a time with regular breaks. The ability to maintain focus through frequent interruptions is essential to success in this position. |
