Role Focus:
The role of the Technology Coordinator is an integral part of the Business Office and School responsible for assisting the Director of Business Services and administration in all facets of managing the technological operations of the institution. The position is integral in the development, implementation, operation, monitoring and evaluation of the School’s technology infrastructure.
As the School’s network administrator the Technology Coordinator shall engineer, implement, maintain and administer the School’s computer, telephony, server and network administration. Through a continuing focus of integrating technology within the School, the Technology Coordinator shall enhance the effective use of technology throughout the institution and enhance both classroom instruction and business operations. The role is a staff role within the Business Office and reports to the Director of Business Services.
Typical Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in information/computer science or equivalent with a minimum of 2-3 years experience preferably in a school environment with Independent School experience a plus.
Overview of Responsibilities:
GENERAL
- Assists in developing, organizing and implementing the School’s Technology Plan
- Develops and maintains a technology resource approach that can be easily accessed by faculty, students and staff
- Implements the evaluation and testing, acquisition, installation and maintenance of information and communication related technology hardware and software to support the instructional and business needs of the institution
- Maintains detailed inventory of all audio visual equipment, communication devices and technology hardware and software assets including related peripheral equipment
- Assures the reliability, security and validity of School information through the development of security policy and procedures
- Continually reviews and remains current with emerging technologies
- Maintains and enforces technology resource standards, policies and procedures including School-wide acceptable use policy
TECHNOLOGY ADMINISTRATION
- Research, implement, maintain and administer network operating systems and all network equipment across campus, including; switches, router, firewall, content filtering and wireless access points
- Research, implement , maintain and administer all servers and virtual servers, including; authentication, security, file, web, database, email, VLAN, active directory, G-Suite, etc.
- Oversee, maintain and troubleshoot a network of 225+ computers including management of all applicable software licenses
- Administer user accounts and contact lists for all systems as well as email, telephone and emergency notification systems
- Create, monitor and maintain security and antivirus policies for all computers as well as monitoring and maintaining server backup solution
- Evaluate, test and recommend productivity, educational, networking and server software including continued support and advancement of the School’s technology initiatives
OTHER – ACADEMIC AND ADMINISTRATIVE
- Install, troubleshoot and maintain printers and computers, including performing repairs as necessary
- Test, implement and configure academic computer labs
- Provide professional development opportunities and technology training to staff as well as providing technical support for administrators, faculty, staff and students.
- Supports the School’s construction and major facility related systems activities through participation in various ad hoc committees
- Assists in database management, support, query development, guidance and design for School with emphasis on Blackbaud educational and administrative systems as well as web-based Schooldude products
- Perform periodic weekend duties during the school year
- Meets and consults with school administrators on the development, maintenance, and effectiveness of data applications; and develops and maintains effective communication and working relationships with all departments
- Other duties as may be assigned in support of the School
Typical Level of Interaction:
Requires strong interaction with all School divisions and departments that are serviced by the Business Office as well as effective communication with vendors and consultants. Will as necessary, represent the Business Office at various meetings which could reach to the full Board of Trustees level.
Supervisory Impact:
This role is currently not a supervisory role within the Business Office, but may grow into one.

- Problem Solving Skills - Considers a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems. Grasps complexities and perceives relationships among different problems or issues.
- Technical Skills – Possesses proficient/advanced computer skills with strong knowledge of Google’s G-Suite platform, Microsoft Office platform, network operating systems and equipment, including related servers, virtual servers, firewalls, content filters, switches, routers and similar. Experience with enterprise backup, antivirus, patch-management, desktop/laptop deployment and policy strategies (including Windows, MacOS and Chrome OS). Extensive working knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components for LAN’s, WAN’s and the internet/intranet as well as computer hardware, software, peripherals and related technologies.
- Supervisory Skills (as applicable) – Leads by example in both work ethic and quality and quantity of work expected of subordinates. Demonstrates an ability to be clear, fair and well-balanced in management process. Ability to plan, organize, evaluate and supervise the work of subordinates.
Other Skills and Abilities:
The Technology Coordinator needs to have excellent client service skills.
