Technology Instructor
Blair Academy seeks an experienced technology teacher for employment beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. The Technology Instructor is responsible for developing and teaching a curriculum of technology electives and facilitating the use of Blair’s new Center for Innovation and Collaboration. This facility is intended to provide a space where students and faculty come to work at the intersections of engineering, arts, computer science, robotics, architecture and video processing with the goal of solving problems and expressing themselves creatively. The Technology Instructor reports to the Director of Technology.
Candidate skills and passions must include general technology use, teaching, programming and robotics. The successful candidate will have experience with a variety of tools that bridge the real and the electronic world, such as 3D printers, sensors, servos, Arduino devices, and Lego robotics. Most important is a love of working with high school students and an ability to generate enthusiasm about technology in the classroom. The position includes dormitory duty and extra?curricular activities.
I. Technology teacher
- Teach a minimum of three technology classes which include elements of both robotics and computer programming.
- Teach and promote Blair’s robotics program. Facilitate student participation in robotics competitions.
- Look for ways to connect student academic work with real world applications, which might include collaborating with other teachers or even community service opportunities.
- Promote and advocate for STEAM programs in academics at Blair.
II. Makerspace facilitator
- Connect with Blair’s faculty and students to work collaboratively on integrating the Makerspace facilities with the existing academic programs. Provide insight and input into the overall Makerspace curriculum and program design. Act as an evangelist throughout the school for the use of the space and equipment.
- Manage the maintenance of the space and equipment to ensure a productive, safe, professional, and fun environment for students and staff.
- Lead after school activities, open shop nights, and other workshops and events.
- Assist in maintaining budgets, reports, and statistics related to the Makerspace. Assess hardware, software, supplies and arrange for purchases.
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or related degree preferred.
5+ years teaching experience in an educational environment. Experience in curriculum development and implementation preferred. Strong programming skills. Experience working with a variety of tools and equipment.
