Marin Country Day School seeks a gifted educator who is passionate about teaching computer science and technology integration. This position will serve a wide audience of students and teachers. As such, we seek an educator with strong interpersonal skills, plus a demonstrated background and/or interest in cultural competency, curriculum development, and environmental sustainability. Also, we seek an educator with the belief in teaching with the interests of the whole child in mind. MCDS School is an independent, K-8, co-educational day school enrolling approximately 590 students from across the Bay area, drawing equally from San Francisco and Marin. Our mission states:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching

  • Leads coding and computer science instruction for ~540 students, 1st-8th grades. (Block-based, Python, Javascript, HTML, physical computing...)

  • Further develops and refines 1st-8th grade coding and computer science curricula.

  • Leads and manages the student digital portfolio process and structure.

  • Supports Director of Technology in digital citizenship initiatives: tech-SEL and setting a culture of responsible, balanced tech use among students.

  • Creates a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that honors and nurtures each child’s individual identity.

  • Develops warm and respectful relationships with students.

  • Identifies and responds to individual students’ learning differences and creates enrichment opportunities.

  • Supervises students at recess, carpool, etc.

  • Participates in assemblies and other special events.

Faculty coaching

  • Researches and seeks professional development around current best practices in ed/tech.

  • Supports and trains faculty on best practices in ed/tech.

  • Attends weekly faculty meetings and regular grade-level team meetings to anticipate and support academic technology needs. 
  • Supports Director of Technology with learning software administration.

  • Collaborates with Student Support Services to meet the needs of individual learners.

  • Participates in regular team and/or department meetings and weekly faculty meetings.

  • Attends Back to School Nights.

  • Serves on committees as needed.

Tech Department support

  • Curates and creates content for mcdstech.org, along with the Director of Technology

  • Supports Director of Technology in parent- and faculty- education initiatives.

  • Cultivates students’ & teachers’ relationships with the tech department.

  • Teaches students and faculty troubleshooting techniques to increase institutional autonomy around technology.

  • Participates in student admission process

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Masters and credential preferred

  • Relevant teaching experience

  • Commitment to professional growth, reflective practice, and growth mindset

  • Strong ability to work collaboratively
