Technology Integration Specialist 

Reports to: Assistant Head, Innovation Development and Technology

Summary of Position:

The Technology Integration Specialist is responsible for integrating current and emergent technologies that align with our Signature of a BSS Girl (SBSSG) attributes and our Culture of Powerful Learning (CoPL) best teaching practices, within all areas of our JK-12 curriculum. As part of a team, this position builds capacity on the use of technology with faculty and students which includes innovative integration, skills development, balanced use and risk-taking. This position will contribute to the BSS leading-edge strategic direction through individual and collaborative research, investigation and implementation of important learning experiences for students.

Specific Accountabilities Include:

  • Collaborates and consults with teachers in the development and implementation of transformative learning, through and with technology, that aligns with our CoPL approaches to learning, including multidisciplinary, project-based, as well as design thinking where applicable

  • As part of a team, develops and delivers training to faculty, staff and students on a wide range of technological skills, through a variety of formats – in class, scheduled workshops, online or just-in-time skills development – through the lens of understanding including balanced use, doing, accomodation of different learning styles and developing technology skills, including the ability to fast adapt

  • As part of a larger team of Technology Integrators, Design Technology Teachers and Technicians, this position collaborates and works under a common set of goals to further the leading-edge strategic direction in the application of technology at BSS

  • Engages in research, testing and pilots of current and developing tools, technology models and best use practices, with the team, that are relevant to the BSS learning environment and strategic directions

  • Participates in the selection process of new technologies

  • Works as part of a team to close and open school including, but not limited to, the development and delivery of student and teacher sessions

  • As part of a team continuously researches, evaluates and re-evaluates all-school technologies for relevancy, efficiency and value alignment to the school’s strategic directions

  • Provides project assistance to Assistant Head, Innovation Development and Technology

  • Other responsibilities as required to support student and faculty use of technology integration

Skills, Experience and Attributes Include:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience integrating technology within a JK-12 curriculum

  • Excellent understanding of the SAMR model and design thinking practices

  • Strong working knowledge and experience with a variety of platforms, primarily Apple

  • Technical proficiency in all devices within the Apple environment including software and hardware support

  • Solid experience in coding, VR, AR

  • Experience with adopting emergent tools such as machine learning, AI, blockchain

  • Experience with Design Technology and maker tools, such as 3D printing

  • Preferred 5 years’ teaching experience, Ontario Teaching Certificate

  • Proven ability as a leader with the track record of inspiring teams and building diverse teams

  • Expertise in designing and delivering training to groups

  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as presentation skills

  • Strong project management, research and writing skills

  • Currency with respect to technology learning environments and tools

  • Troubleshooting/problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

  • Interested in and able to work in a complex and changing environment

  • Flexibility and a sense of humour
