Overview
Princeton University’s Office of Information Technology is seeking a Technology Specialist 1 to join its Hardware Support team. As a member of Hardware Support, the technology specialist applies basic hardware and software skills and knowledge to provide a variety of hardware support services. The technology specialist also partners with Software Support colleagues to resolve computing issues presented by students, faculty and staff, as well as works on special projects that may require overtime work.
Serving a community of nearly 8,000 students and more than 6,600 employees and a growing campus, the working environment in Hardware Support is busy and fast-paced. A successful candidate is able to multi-task and possesses effective communication skills.
Responsibilities

Assists senior technicians troubleshoot the more complex network-related outages

Assists the networking operations group deploy network closet electronics

Installs and maintains closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and simple home camera systems with DVR capabilities

Installs maintenance kits and troubleshoots printer issues

Assists software support technicians troubleshoot and resolve customer computer issues

Works independently and as a member of teams to provide network switch upgrades, computer migrations, and cable pulling

Provides excellent customer service and communicates technical
information to customers having varying levels of technical ability -
Provides off-hours troubleshooting and maintenance tasks, as needed

Completes daily administration tasks, such as updating and closing service tickets and completing timesheets
Qualifications
-
A minimum of 2 years of experience providing technical hardware support services

Current hardware and software computer knowledge
-
Understanding of printers and imaging technology

Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical customers
-
Commitment to professional, courteous customer service
-
Valid driver's license
-
Ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds
-
Willingness to continuously work toward the mastery of new skills and technologies to meet the changing support needs of the campus community
Preferred Qualifications

A+ certification
-
Network+ certification
-
PDI certification, or similar printer certifications
-
Experience with both PC (windows-based) and Mac computers
Education
High school diploma, or equivalent
