Technology Support Specialist
Job Objective
To support the school staff and students in a multi-platform environment. This is a
full-time, 12 month position and reports to the Director of Technology.
Job Functions
• Monitor the network infrastructure (firewall, switches, servers, printers, wiring,
jacks, patch panels, wireless access points and backup systems); occasional
evening and weekend hours will be required for scheduled maintenance or major
projects
• Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot a network of 150+ Apple computers, 12 PC
computers and 250+ mobile devices
• Manage telephone system and voicemail system (move, add and change phones;
re-program phones and voicemail), maintain portions of the video security
system, fax machines, emergency 911 phone lines and backup Internet
connection
• Administer and maintain user accounts and groups for all systems
• Replace equipment in accordance with the school technology plan
Technical Support & Maintenance
• Answer ‘help desk’ requests
• Maintain email and library circulation systems, FileMaker server and two-way
television distribution system
• After review and testing, install and/or update software on workstations and
laptops
• Oversee work performed by IT contractors
• Manage audio-visual resources for classrooms, theatre, dining room, &
gymnasium (video projection systems, Smartboards, DVD players, digital
cameras and videocameras, etc.) Record and duplicate DVDs of class plays,
theatrical performances and end-of-year ceremonies
• Maintain hardware and software inventories and licensing
• Provide tech support for the annual school auction
• Manage our iPad program:
• set-up and management of iPads, accessories and systems for storing and
securing these devices
• purchasing software and managing a database of these and any accounts
associated with their use
• perform all operating system and application updates
• develop and support a system for sharing/backing up mobile content
Technical Requirements
• Minimum 2 years experience troubleshooting and using Mac OS X, iOS and
Windows
• Familiarity with Apple Configurator or similar MDM for deployment and
management of iOS devices
• Knowledge of basic networking
• Strong technology literacy
• Experience administering phone and voicemail systems
• Experience working with technology in an academic environment
• Experience with enterprise backup, anti-virus, laptop deployment and policy
strategies
• Familiarity and experience with Windows server, Active Directory, DHCP
• Experience troubleshooting printers and AirPrint
• Basic knowledge of wireless networking implementation, configuration, and
security
Job Requirements
• Associates degree in IT or related field required; Bachelors degree
preferred
• Ability to explain technical jargon to general audiences, and to be patient with
new technology learners
• Maintain effective, appropriate and timely communication within the Technology
Department, administration, faculty, staff, students and vendors
• Show ability to work and focus effectively with multiple distractions, projects
and changing priorities
• Extremely well-organized
• Attend professional workshops and conferences; be aware of best practices
• Be an active and visible member of the school community
• Demonstrate interest in contributing to the life of the school and enjoy working
with adults and students who approach the use of computer and technology from
an educational point of view
• Support the tech projects initiated by other colleagues
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head of school
