Department Description

The School of Medicine Information Technology (IT) Office provides centralized computer support and information system support for the School of Medicine community, from medical students to faculty to administrative staff. Services include central help desk and desktop support; administrative and clinical application support; novel application development and database hosting; research IT and data science initiatives; infrastructure services including physical, virtual, and cloud provisioning; physical networking installation and management; and web development. Additional services include managing the School of Medicine official web presence; classroom video recording and streaming systems; video production and editing; video conferencing; and digital signage.

Position Description

This position provides daily audio/visual and computer technical support for classrooms at the School of Medicine, primarily out of the Operation Center. The candidate will be responsible supporting and finding solutions for classrooms, theaters, and other learning environments while documenting and tracking these actions as part of the central School of Medicine IT department; escalation of complex support issues to either the A/V Engineering, Sr. Classroom support technicians or appropriate School of Medicine group will be part of standard operations. This job involves both operations center functions and field work.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from high school and one year in the field of technology related to the position’s role. 
- Computer coursework may be substituted year-for- year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
- Journey level requires an additional six months experience 
- Advanced level requires an additional one year of experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Candidates must possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Candidates must possess demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to deliver innovative solutions to technical problems to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

The candidate should be comfortable working in either Windows or Macintosh environments and should have an understanding of basic audio visual concepts. The candidate will maintain A/V equipment in over 60 classrooms used to support the educational mission of the School of Medicine. The candidate will need to assist in operating audio video productions, such as the capture of lectures, video conference, and special events. This includes both the setup and troubleshooting of both traditional analog productions and digital media productions. The candidate should have strong customer support skills. The candidate should be able to work as part of a team or independently. Experience with remote monitoring and diagnostic tools are a plus. Research of new and evolving A/V technologies is an integral part of this position. Customer service certification such as HDI is a plus. Audio/Video and computer certifications, such as CTS, MCSA, A+, and Extron certifications are also valued.
