Technology Teacher

Columbia Grammar and Prep School seeks an outstanding, self-motivated and creative Technology Teacher who will help develop an expanding technology curriculum in our Middle School (Grades 5-7). This person will be responsible for teaching weekly technology classes with a focus on coding, robotics, hardware hacking, digital design, design thinking, engineering, as well as other core and emerging technologies. She or he should have a passion for working with children and a solid understanding of children's social, emotional, and academic developmental stages. This person will work in our newly designed Innovation Lab and also work closely with teachers from our other STEAM-focused subject areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and teach technology courses at the middle school level.

• Provide faculty, students, and staff with guidance and support using educational technology.

• Collaborate with faculty in other departments to explore opportunities for interdisciplinary projects.

• Communicate with parents to ensure transparency between school and home.

Desired Skills and Interests

• Familiarity or interest in some or all of the following: Coding, Scratch, Vex Robotics, making, Arduino or other hardware platforms.

• Knowledgeable about Digital Citizenship curriculum.

• Passion for encouraging young people to take on complex and challenging ideas.

• Experience teaching students in a classroom setting and an adept skill at classroom management.

• Intellectual curiosity, an aptitude for learning, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

• A demonstrated ability to innovate, problem solve and create original curriculum.

• Experience with troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues relevant to classroom technology and STEM education.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills and a desire to work with a team.

Work Hours

• School Year ‘19-20, 7:30am - 4:00pm

• Weekly faculty and department meetings
