Information Technology invites applications for the Temporary Accessibility Specialist (Computer Systems Analyst II) to conduct accessibility evaluations of hardware and software.

 

This position will arrange for access to hardware and software for testing from product vendor or requestor; perform accessibility evaluations of UM web pages and web content; generate reports detailing hardware and software compliance with Section 508 and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.; consult with software vendors to identify accessibility issues in their products; consult with product vendors and developers on identified accessibility barriers and techniques for remediation; and coordinate with the UM Web Group to remediate website accessibility issues encountered during testing.

 

This position will provide assistive technology technical support for campus users and for office staff and student staff by troubleshooting, interpreting, analyzing, and resolving problems in the use of the hardware and software used to complete required processes. This position will also prepare and provide specific training sessions or videos on accessibility topics, for student and office staff and the UM campus. This position will also stay current with national digital accessibility standards and methods.

 

Required Skills

  • Possess working knowledge of assistive technology and common use.
  • Possess working knowledge of accessibility standards including 508 and WCAG 2.0 AA
  • Possess working knowledge of methods and techniques used to achieve accessibility standards in web and learning environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-starter and independent worker.
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and multiple concurrent processes.

Minimum Required Experience

  • High School diploma with two (2) years experience with assistive technology and one (1) year experience testing information and communication technology (ICT) for digital accessibility against 508 and WCAG 2.0 standards; or any combination of experience and education that provides the competencies necessary to successfully handle the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience doing software testing for accessibility.
  • Experience with assistive technology technical training.
  • Experience with assistive technology technical customer assistance.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accessibility efforts at UM
