SPA seeks candidates for the position of Upper School Design and Innovation Specialist beginning in August 2018.  This exciting opportunity will go to a person who has a record of collaboration with adults and students on innovation and design across a broad spectrum of interest, experience, and curricular content areas; a person who is motivated to delve into conversations and collaborate with faculty on integrating design and innovation across the curriculum, yet who can also instruct adults and students on the safe use of equipment while managing the day-to-day details of a vibrant and active design space.  The successful applicant will be an inspiring innovator who is excited by the opportunity to work with high school students at an independent school with a deep commitment to the liberal arts.

SPA is in the process of completing construction on the $25 million Hugh K. Schilling Math and Science Center, which will provide distinctive, state-of-the-art facilities for math, science, computer science, robotics, and engineering.  The facility includes two state-of-the-art Engineering and Design Labs, which will serve as spaces for fabrication and innovation; these spaces will support current classes, and they will provide opportunities for collaboration across disciplines as well as new curricular offerings in design and engineering.

The Design and Innovation Specialist will supervise these labs; she/he will work with students both as a teacher and in support of their work on projects for other classes, and will collaborate with teachers in all academic disciplines, providing professional support and training as they integrate design and innovation into their curriculum.  She or he should have a passion for collaboration, creative problem-solving and for working with students, and should be a motivated and engaged proponent of exploring design elements across the curriculum.  Candidates should possess at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, design, or a related field; experience working with high school students is preferred but not a prerequisite. This is a full-time, ongoing position within the science department.

Please submit the following information with your application to be considered: letter of interest, resume, education philosophy, transcripts and a list of references. Resume review will begin February 2, 2018.

Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Upper School.
