Cape Fear Academy is seeking an innovative educator to AP Computer Science and related courses.  This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to help develop a course of study centered around the innovation lab.

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Teach 5 sections of Technology and Computer Science related courses, including Advanced Placement Principles of Computer Science and Computer Science A(Java Programming), App Design for iOS and/or Android and Swift.
  • Develop a course of study centered around the innovation lab on campus.
  • Initiate programs and activities that will connect computer science with the STEM program.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to 10-12 students.
  • Provide a range of instructional and assessment strategies with technology to meet the needs of all students.
  • Collaborate with staff members to create engaging lessons and a positive school culture.
  • Provide tutoring to individual and small student groups as required.
  • Sponsor a student club such as a Robotics or Programming Club.

 

 

Education, Experience, and Qualifications Required:

  • Teacher should be an innovative educator with experience and knowledge in teaching Upper School Technology and Computer Science courses, including Advanced Placement Principles of Computer Science and Computer Science A, App Design for iOS and/or Adroid or Swift. Knowledge in C++, C#, Javascript and Python are a plus.
  • Knowledge of Robotics, including not limited to, VEX, First Robotics and/or MATE.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing using programs such as Google Sketch Up and Sculptris are a plus.
  • Demonstrated strength in connecting computer science to the STEM program on campus.
  • Teacher should have an interest in and ability to contribute to extracurricular activities.
  • Commitment to a community that values equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology Education, Engineering or similar field; a Master’s degree in related field preferred.

  • Three or more years of teaching experience at the high school level in technology or a related field, preferably in an independent school environment.  Prior experience in engineering, project-based learning and design work is desired.
