Preferred Degree(s): Master’s Degree in instructional technology, educational technology, or a related field desired.

Required Degree(s): Bachelor’s Degree in instructional technology, educational technology, distance education, instructional systems design, information sciences, digital media design or related field required.

A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in instructional design preferred.

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard), eLearning authoring software (Articulate 360), multimedia software and on-line course development.

Excellent analytical, organizational skills needed to work effectively in a team environment is required.

Must be able to manage projects from conception to completion.

Job Description Summary |
POSITION SUMMARY
The Instructional Designer works directly with faculty and focuses on designing and developing online courses delivered via the University’s learning management system. The Instructional Designer must have knowledge of educational and instructional design theories and emerging technologies, as well as experience in developing online courses. The Instructional Designer must be able to effectively communicate best practices in e-learning to faculty and assist them in developing measurable course objectives and editing content within the learning management system (Blackboard).
The Instructional Technology Specialist should have outstanding communication, project management skills and ability to motivate and manage subject matter experts (SMEs) through the course development process.
Position responsibilities include the following:

Collaborate with faculty in the design and development of online courses that are supported by research-based best practices in online learning.

Suggest relevant open educational resources and appropriate instructional methods for online delivery of content.

Actively manage the SME relationship and obtain SME approval throughout the course development process.

Assure the quality and functionality of course delivery systems, consideration of various learning styles, and evaluation of effectiveness.

Recommend the appropriate tools, media, and teaching strategies to accomplish course goals, objectives and outcomes, assisting with the identification, selection and application of appropriate assessment tools and strategies needed by faculty.

Coordinates the production and/or acquisition of instructional materials, including video, graphics, animations, and interactive media elements.

Oversees the course development process, monitoring that deadlines are met and that courses meet university standards.

Perform other duties appropriate to the position as assigned.
