School/Center Overview

Information Systems & Computing (ISC) is the University of Pennsylvania’s central IT organization, providing infrastructure and services upon which Penn’s numerous Schools and Centers build their unique tools and capabilities. ISC’s 270-plus employees work closely with the University’s IT organizations in order to create, deliver and support products and services that help Schools and Centers operate efficiently and effectively. Duties

In collaboration with the University IT community, lead the development of security standards, policies, guidelines, processes, best practices, and architecture to enhance the security of Penn’s information assets. Provide visible leadership in development and delivery of security education to the IT community and the general University on security policies and best practices. Facilitate and monitor the delivery of University-wide services and systems that are compliant with established security guidelines and policies. Conduct studies, internally, and monitor developments, externally, to ensure currency with industry standards. Coordinate with other members of the ISC Security organization; develop options and recommend approaches to the prevention of, and response to, security related vulnerabilities and incidents. Handle security incidents following established policies and procedures. Participate in the planning and implementation of security administration goals and deliverables for the information Security unit. Proactively make recommendations and collaborate with University officials, including the Office of Audit, Compliance and Privacy and the Office of General Counsel, to enhance the effectiveness of Penn’s security and privacy practices. Lead efforts to identify the tools and procedures to enhance the effectiveness and productivity of the Information Security organization. Coordinate the timely interaction with external and internal auditors on security issues. Work on multiple, complex initiatives as a project leader and subject matter expert. Report on trends, results, strategies to the University CIO/VP, Information Technology.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field and a minimum of seven years of work experience in IT security or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have strong project management skills and excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and to effectively lead and collaborate with others.
