Chief Information Officer
Position Summary |
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the senior administrator responsible for the strategic direction of the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. The CIO is also responsible for providing an overarching information technology environment which includes complex but cohesive infrastructure systems and services to meet the varying needs of the University. The CIO, in consultation with various campus leaders, strategically plans the direction of technology in support of the university’s mission. The CIO will partner with senior university leaders and stakeholders in developing and implementing innovative and cost effective technology initiatives and programs. The CIO oversees IT strategy to help lead and support teaching, learning, research, and administrative services. The university’s IT environment is defined and managed by the Information Technology Services (ITS) department with a staff of approximately 35. Many elements of the IT environment are hosted on campus, but the primary systems are increasingly provided by off-campus partners within the UNC System, the UNC General Administration, and other consortia or vendor partners. The current ITS leadership team consists of an Associate CIO and 5 Directors: Academic Technology Support, Auxiliary Services, Client Technology Support, Enterprise Systems and Applications, and Networks, Infrastructure, and Systems. |

Required Education/Experience/Skills |
A Master’s degree in Information Technology, Business or a closely related field and at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in an information technology environment. May also consider a Bachelor’s degree plus significant equivalent experience. Candidate should also have at least three years of leadership and supervisory experience. All degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution |
