Position Overview:

The Director of Cybersecurity provides direction and leads the implementation and operation of the statewide cybersecurity program to safeguard the confidential information, assets, and intellectual property belonging to Texas State Technical College. The Director of Cybersecurity will work closely with the Vice Chancellor and Chief Technology Officer as new security related initiatives are introduced.

Essential Function:

  • Defines, develops & manages the cybersecurity program including development and implementation of security standards, policies and procedures, risk assessments, system audits, security awareness and training requirements across the entire College, as applicable.

  • Proactively researches guidelines, procedures, rules and regulations, monitors compliance, monitors TSTC's technical environment (internal & external) and develops the course of action to mitigate security incidents and to maintain security safeguards across the entire TSTC user community and IT Technicians.

  • Represents IT in reviewing technical risk assessments, data sharing agreements and contracts for new and existing applications and systems, including internal/external data center environmental controls, physical & logical security and works directly with 3rd party entities, General Counsel, functional leaders, including IT Executive Directors, in an authoritative capacity to safeguard TSTC digital and physical assets as it pertains to storage, processing or transmission of TSTC's data and information.

  • Represents the IT department during cybersecurity incidents, special investigations (legal and other), internal & external audits in regards to the safeguarding of TSTC's digital assets in order to provide hands on support, direction, guidance or applicable leadership.

  • Participates in IT strategy planning activities, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of security safeguards and systems as related to the needs of the business.

  • Responsible for addressing and working with functional leads in regards to information security requirements and required reporting with external entities including and State and Federal agencies as applicable.

  • Assist with the budget preparation process, implementation, monitoring and overall stewardship of the budget

  • Some travel may be required

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, engineering, or information security / cybersecurity.

  • Typically has 5 to 10 years of IT and information security / cybersecurity work experience such as designing, implementing and/or auditing information technology security programs, plans, training, etc...

  • Knowledge of the network, server hardware, software, and security tools in a moderately complex, large organization.

Annual Salary: DOE
