The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to roughly 500 students in grades 6 through 12, including 80 international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory. The Northwest School seeks a teacher who will teach one Graphic Design course, one visual art course, and will oversee production of the yearbook. This is a 75% time position and is eligible for full school benefits.

Essential Functions Include: 

Teach one section of Graphic Design

Teach one section of visual arts

Oversee production of the school yearbook by advising a group of students and ensuring a timely and quality product.

Coordinate curricula with other teachers and grade level teachers.

Participate fully in the life of the school which includes collaborating effectively and collegially with a teaching team, grade-level, and department; engage regularly in formal, ongoing professional development beyond school based in-service; support colleagues and the school by substituting for absent teachers; participate in meetings, committees, and community gatherings; and know, understand, and uphold the mission, philosophy and values of the school.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school’s mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and environmental sustainability.

A master’s degree and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Demonstrated success with culturally responsive pedagogy.

Experience teaching a diverse student body through a social justice lens.

Salary is highly competitive with top independent schools in the region and commensurate with experience.
