The Emerging Technologies Librarian will identify, implement, and evaluate current and emerging technologies for the delivery of library services that further the library’s mission and enhance access to resources and services for our students, faculty, and staff. 

 

Typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintains and administers library software and systems, including Sirsi Dynix’s Horizon, OCLC Connexion, EZProxy, online databases, and other web-based tools.  

  • Organizes and coordinates the daily activities required for ongoing operation of the library network, printing, applications, and computers.  Serves as a point of contact for library network, applications, hardware, and software in identification of problems, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. With the Circulation supervisor, maintains and troubleshoots the AV equipment and purchases AV/tech equipment as needed.

  • Serves as technical liaison with the ITS department and database vendors. Develops and make recommendation for procedures for the library network and technology, and disseminates information concerning the operation, modifications, and enhancements of the system.

  • Provides usage reports on databases and other tools, as well as assists with the renewal and licensing of library databases and products. 

  • Serves on the school's Faculty Technology Mentor Group.

  • Supports the Archives department by assisting in the maintenance and troubleshooting of content management software and development of digital collections. Works with the Archives staff  and ITS to maintain Preservica, PastPerfect, and ArchivesSpace.

  • Responsible for one evening of library/reference duty per week and three to four weekend duty periods per semester in rotation with other librarians. Assists and instructs patrons with use of databases, reference tools, and other library equipment.

  • Provides information literacy instruction as part of a team and works with faculty and students to incorporate library resources into the curriculum. Collaborates with the outreach team to  build relationships with users and increase awareness of Library resources and services in the campus community.

 

The strongest applicants will have the following qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited institution.

  • 3+ years experience in a systems or technology role at an academic library.

  • Experience working with young people in a school setting helpful. 

  • Strong technology skills, including knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite and Google Education. 

  • Experience managing a library management system, Sirsi Dynix’s Horizon and OCLC systems preferred.

  • Knowledge of cataloguing principles, including MARC and RDA, as well as common metadata  standards, including Dublin Core. Knowledge of data migration and manipulation, including data crosswalks. 

  • Knowledge of reference resources and techniques as well as a strong commitment to public service and the provision of exceptional service.

  • Experience teaching general and specialized information literacy classes and excellent teaching and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging library principles, practices, and technologies. Proceficient assessing emerging technologies and applying tools used in the special collections and archival communities, preferably with systems such as ArchivesSpace, Preservica, PastPerfect, and Omeka. 

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision and to work effectively in collaborative teams to achieve common goals.

  • Familiarity with web design principles, with LibGuides or other web authoring tools, and with learning management and content management systems preferred.

  • Knowledge of databases and SQL preferred

  • Experience using video production hardware and software to produce video tutorials, discovery tools, mobile design, data visualization, 3D printing/scanning, etc. preferred

  • Experience converting from original media into digital format preferred.
