Basic Function

The Assistive Technology Coordinator procures, maintains, inventories, distributes and demonstrates the use of all of the assistive technology hardware and software for NOVA students with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities. The Coordinator may also supervise these same activities provided by an assistive technology assistant or part-time coordinator. The Coordinator collaborates with outside agencies, school systems, and vendors to insure continuity of services and supports. The Coordinator provides regular training and professional development for faculty, staff, students, and related service providers, to ensure technologies are utilized effectively throughout the college.
The Coordinator collaborates with NOVA departments and divisions to make sure that IT and other products and services are accessible to students using AT. This position is also responsible for overseeing the way the Office of Disability Services organizes, stores, and access student information.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with Disability Support Services Counselors, Libraries, Testing Centers, Computer Labs, Academic Departments, Website managers and other departments to oversee the use of AT. 

  • Conduct regular needs assessment to determine students’ level of proficiency in using Assistive Technology.

  • Provide training to students in the use of AT.

  • Conduct regular needs assessment to determine what AT equipment and software is needed at each campus.

  • Work with the Director of Disability Services to procure AT equipment and software.

  • Use the Disability Services database to keep track of AT inventory.

  • Collect hardware and equipment at the end of each semester.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining networks; and participating in professional organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree with Assistive Technology Certification or equivalent education and work experience. Experience in disability services and delivery of assistive technology.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Studies, Assistive Technology or related field.
Experience determining the needs of programs and individuals with regard to the use of Assistive Technology at the college level.
Experience providing information and training to programs and individuals with regard to the use of Assistive Technology at the college level.
Experience with database management, data analysis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Reporting Services and SQL 

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. 

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Professional with advanced skills in Word and Excel. 

  • Knowledge and competence of various assistive technology tools.

  • Excellent customer support skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Adept with Microsoft Office tools, including database management, online learning development tools and familiar with various methods of electronic communication, detail oriented and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

  • Knowledge of or experience working with individuals with disabilities.
