PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Information Technology Specialist II installs and maintains computer operating systems, application software and network sub-systems to meet the technology needs of the district; provides technical support to site administrators and resolves district or school site operational issues.

 

FUNCTIONS

  • Troubleshoots issues with hardware and/or software applications (server or local machine resident) and determines appropriate actions to maintain computer and/or network operations.

  • Inspects computer and network equipment, identifies and verifies repair needs.

  • Installs software products on a variety of hardware platforms.

  • Orders equipment, supplies and materials.

  • Repairs computers, peripherals, network equipment and software in a safe and functional operating condition.

  • Transports items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) and materials to various job sites.

  • Sets up a variety of computer, presentation, peripheral and network equipment (e.g. computers, printers, PDAs, switches, UPS, print servers, laptops, LCD projectors, etc.).

  • Enforces district acceptable use and software policies.

  • Assists other personnel as maybe required.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of experience in training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. An example of an acceptable combination is: Demonstrated expertise in technology and information systems via: Associate’s degree in information systems, or two years equivalent training, or A+ and/or N+ certification, plus Two years experience in information technology systems support services: networking, computer hardware and software.

SKILLS are required to set-up computer equipment, including placing and connecting computer equipment, verifying accuracy and/or condition of components, installing operating systems, application software, and network and/or client software, installing and verifying device drivers, configuring peripherals (e.g., printer, scanner, PDA), and network connections, and verifying equipment operation; install, diagnose and maintain computer hardware and software; resolve software conflicts; evaluate software compatibility; perform system/data restoration, anti-virus operations, and preventive maintenance. 

KNOWLEDGE of various operating systems; computer terminology, common desktop applications; basic computer repair techniques; presentation, peripheral and network equipment (e.g. computers, printers, PDAs, switches, UPS, print servers, laptops, LCD projectors, etc.).

ABILITY to interpret and apply complex technical oral directions and written documents; safely operate a motor vehicle; maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field; establish and maintain accurate records, inventories, and statistical reports; observe safety precautions and procedures; maintain a work pace appropriate to a given workload; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, fellow employees, teachers, and administrators; understand, be sensitive to and respect the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities and sexual orientation of students, teachers, administrators and staff; maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between California Teamsters Public, Professional & Medical Employees Union, local 911 Maintenance & Operations Unit, and Palm Springs Unified School District.
