Job Summary

The faculty and staff in more than 50 departments and units in the College of Arts and Sciences, the College’s Career Development Center, and more than 20 units in the office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs rely on Computer Support Specialists as their IT gurus.

Assists extensively with moves and setups of user equipment and machines. Serves as the primary contact for support, analysis, and advice for all computing devices and computer systems, software, and peripherals, both Windows and Apple. Recommends and approves faculty hardware and software purchases, in consultation with Lead and Tier-2 technicians. Conducts Windows and Apple OS education and training, in collaboration with the Lead Technician. Provides remote consultation and support through CITO’s Help Request system, under supervision of the Lead Technician.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED: Proof of working on an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Technology and one year of experience in project management and asset tracking.

Degree does not have to be complete, should be underway.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Knowledge of Operating system and hardware architecture and configurations for Windows and Mac OS X. Knowledge of business software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Understanding of computer peripheral architecture and configurations (printers, scanners, cameras, I/O devices, and others). Certified in CompTIA’s A+, CompTIA’s Network+, Microsoft MCP. Proficient in the English language. Ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and grace. Familiarity with all desktop computer systems on the market during the last five years, desktop backup, and disaster recovery systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree; three years of experience providing front-line, Tier-1 Windows computer support; proficiency in a second language.

Working Conditions / Physical Demands

Employee must be able to lift thirty pounds unaided. Be able to work from various physical angles such as kneeling and crouched positions to access devices and wiring.
