The School of Engineering for Matter, Transport and Energy is seeking to fill the senior level position of Manager of Information Technology and Infrastructure. The School (SEMTE) is a complex academic unit with significant research and instructional emphasis with faculty members and labs located in various buildings on the main campus. The Manager of Information Technology and Infrastructure provides high‐level support for all aspects of information technology and facilities management. This position reports to the SEMTE School Director and supervises several IT positions including position that is split between IT and facilities. The ideal candidate is skilled in maintaining effective working relationships among a diverse population including faculty, staff and students, is a team player, able to provide excellent customer service, skilled in handling confidential and sensitive information and has excellent communication skills. This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work with short deadlines and work effectively in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities. Schedule is typically Monday‐Friday 8:00AM‐5:00PM with occasional weekend or evening work required.

Essential Duties

  • Participates in the formulation of the department's facilities, space and technology plans and policies and conducts direct liaison with other building IT staff, Engineering Technical Services (ETS) staff, University IT staff, Capital Programs Management Group (CPMG) and facilities management (FACMAN) regarding ongoing operation, application and existing resources.

  • Project management including information technology projects such as endpoint security compliance and facilities items to include space and renovations, projects related to department occupied building facilities and research labs, construction renovations and remodels.

  • Manages SEMTE IT help desk including developing plans and providing recommendations for implementation of desktop support process.

  • Manages staff including hiring, work planning, performance management and career development.

  • Works with administration and researchers to define, adapt ,research, develop, and implement solutions enabling and empowering units to use technology in a more effective way. 

  • Increasing support efficiency  and information technology security through the use and recommendation of University and Engineering central resources and management tools, infrastructure standards and best practices providing a high-level of support for the SEMTE community.

  • Oversees central management and support of desktops, printers and mobile devices within SEMTE, including deploying operating systems, applications, security, and troubleshooting.

  • Oversees asset management; acquisition, installation, operation and security of technology resources (mobile devices, computers, servers, networks, software, and data services) and SEMTE equipment inventory.

  • Oversight and implementation of facility related items such as reporting building problems to ASU’s facility management group (FACMAN), monitoring status of building issues and managing surplus requests for school. 

  • Manages access controls and develops processes and procedures for school to include ISAAC and Key access in coordination with lab managers and business administration staff. 

  • Responsible for safety needs of school and works in coordination with the Fulton Schools of Engineering Safety Director to ensure school is in compliance and to resolve any issues.

  • Provides excellent customer and quality of service by establishing and enforcing organization policies, procedures and standards.

  • Oversees the development and execution of communication plan for IT and facilities, which may include communicating with organizational leaders and faculty about the projects impact or status.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related field AND five years of related experience, which includes three years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience with project management and methodologies

  • Demonstrated knowledge with research lab environments

  • Experience in systems analysis and creative problem solving and critical thinking

  • Experience in work that requires the ability to be self-motivated and the ability to work in a dynamic environment

  • Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working in higher education in a customer focused position

  • Experience in Windows Active Directory and Group Policies

  • Experience with SCCM and JAMF deployment services

  • Experience in administrating desktop and server operating systems such as Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, MAC OS X , Linux

  • Experience with network topology, TCP/IP, Ethernet, wireless networks

 

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 25 pounds. Effective communication skills. Works from general instructions on standard job duties and specific directions/instructions on new assignments.
