Salary:

 $150,000 - $195,000

Basic Function:

Serves as an advocate for Kent State’s business process and the technology portfolio which enables Kent State to fulfill strategic priorities and goals.  Responsible for leading innovative approaches, technologies, and solutions for a complex technology environment while collaborating with business owners to continually align with business goals, evaluating project and service risk, and provide IT governance leadership. Reports to Vice President for Information Services and CIO (VPIS/CIO).

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

  • Guide the technical strategic direction, development and future growth while ensuring alignment with business goals. Use stakeholders' feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to strategic technology plan.

  • Lead Information Services Business Services team and work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with other business owners and strategic business partners as an advisor of technologies that may improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Oversee communication efforts with technical and non-technical personnel across the university.

  • Serve as a member of the VPIS/CIO leadership team and in a key role in university leadership, working closely with senior administration, academic leaders, and the university community.

  • Collaborate with Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs to build, maintain and enhance technology resources in support of Kent State’s research enterprise.

  • Research current and new industry trends, technologies, and software development.

  • Discover and implement technologies that yield a competitive advantage and help departments use technology profitably while maximizing the utilization of Kent State’s technology investments.

  • Assist in the development of future budgets, and in the analysis and evaluation of cost recovery, cost-benefit, and other quality management/assessment approaches for enterprise IT services.

  • Lead the identification and implementation of project management methods, reporting, tools, templates, guidelines, and standards in order to establish a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders to improve the probability of successful project delivery.

  • Develop, track, analyze and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess technological performance and the reporting of results.

  • Optimize IT service offerings for the university, and provide technical leadership guidance of these services.

  • Lead and manage technical experts responsible for the development, design, and systems integration for client engagement, from definition phase through implementation; provide technical direction for one or more technical areas.

  • Create and execute business and technical plans, and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.

  • Create procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with university policy and federal and state regulations.

  • Supervise, lead, hire, coach, and evaluate performance of staff.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree. Eight years of increasingly technical work experience in higher education and project management leadership.

License/Certification:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or training.

  • Agile Project Management certification and/or training.

  • ITIL Foundations v3 certification and/or training.

Knowledge Of:

  • Portfolio and project management methodologies, emerging technology trends, and software and systems development lifecycles

  • Higher education, preferably with residential and student services, student affairs, or other similar auxiliary business functions

Skill In:

  • Written and oral communication with proven track record in presentations

  • Multi-tasking

  • Building and developing collaborative relationships in a campus community with a commitment to collegiality

  • Customer relationship skills, consensus building skills, and ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment

Ability To:

  • Engage customers and ensure high level of satisfaction

  • Manage change in a complex and ever-evolving environment

  • Provide leadership that is engaging, imaginative, and collaborative, with a sophisticated ability to work with other leaders to set the best balance between data strategies and other university priorities

  • Lead and motivate cross-functional, interdisciplinary teams to achieve tactical and strategic goals

  • Think strategically and balance and drive cost efficiencies and digital transformation

  • Discern and develop policies and standards and achieve adoption

  • Work with minimal supervision, and maintain productivity in a dynamic environment

  • Resolve issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives, in a collaborative culture

  • Act as a good steward of Kent State’s resources and ensure control and oversight of Information Service’s portfolio expenses

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Master’s degree in management information systems or closely related field of study.

10 or more years of experience working as data architect or related role.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
