To align with the goals of NOVA’s 2017-2023 strategic plan, Pathway to the American Dream, NOVA is seeking to hire highly motivated and qualified Information Technology (IT) and Cybersecurity teaching faculty to expand its faculty base across all five comprehensive campuses (Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas and Woodbridge). The intent of this search is not to focus on any one specific IT skill set but to recruit the most outstanding IT faculty in Northern Virginia. Positions filled through the first round of hiring will begin August 16, 2018 for the 2018-2019 academic year. |

Duties and Responsibilities |
The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. To accomplish this NOVA faculty are expected to excel in teaching strategies and classroom management that fully engage the student whether or not in a classroom, laboratory or online platform, and to engage students in individual conferences and related activities. NOVA faculty will help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity, thus building stronger citizens and enhancing the community. Full-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching various courses in IT and Cybersecurity (ITD, ITE, ITN, ITP) and for advising students in IT and Cybersecurity programs. As a part of this primary responsibility, the College expects each faculty member to: meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; conduct requisite student conferences; hold required office hours; attend to assigned divisional and College duties; contribute to the development of the program of instruction; adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations. Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization and advise students. |
Minimum Qualifications |
A master’s degree in the teaching field or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field and at least 2 years related experience is required. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Master’s or Doctorate degree in the teaching field. College level teaching and/or work experience. Active certifications in IT field of expertise. Experience teaching industry certifications such as CCNA, CEH, A+, Network+, Security+, and Linux+. Experience with curriculum development. Experience in academic administration and program management. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Candidates should be comfortable with a broad range of technologies and will be required to teach introductory level skills as well as more advanced technical concepts. Candidates should have advanced skills and industry experience in at least one of the following areas:
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills are required. The successful candidate must be able to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or online classes. |
