Job Description

The IT Project Manager provides management of projects, application development and supporting multiple related functional area information systems. Focuses on meeting project commitments and spending significant time on project management responsibilities. Provides leadership to team members in coordinating the administration and integration of information systems in support of the University’s business functions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Three years of experience in an information technology field.

Experience with relational databases using SQL.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

  • Experience with relational databases and data analysis preferably using Oracle.

  • Experience writing queries in SQL.

  • Experience reading code and programming in a variety of languages that might include PL/SQL, Java, C++, and shell scripting.

  • Experience with Web technologies to include HTML, XML, scripting, and stylesheets.

  • Experience supporting or working with Ellucian Banner.

  • Experience working in a technical customer support role.

  • Experience with interface design and construction.

  • Experience with project leadership using standard project management methodologies and project life cycle phases.

  • Experience using Visio and SharePoint software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate project leadership skills using standard project management methodologies and project life cycle phases.

  • Knowledge and ability to understand Ellucian Banner, Operational Data Store, Enterprise Data Warehouse, and Cognos Meta Data.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as a team member, and as a project leader.

  • Ability to lead a business process review and analysis.

  • Ability to effectively use analytical skills to troubleshoot challenging technical problems that may require significant time to resolve.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with University constituents in a professional manner.

  • Willingness and ability to provide mentoring on specific functional areas to junior level team members.

  • Knowledge and ability to make logical recommendations and decisions.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Job Duties

 

Essential Job Duties
  • Manages the ongoing implementation of the University’s information systems. Provides leadership and support for employees in assigned departments or work units. Provides backup support for departments and work units assigned to other IT Project Managers.

  • Leads project efforts, using industry best practices for project management, as departments seek to expand services and improve business processes.

  • Leads project teams, made up of a variety of administrative, academic, and executive clients in the development of system specifications from applicable business requirements, and University policies, statutes, and rules.

  • Leads cross-departmental teams and acts as the single point of contact for facilitation of detailed project plans.

  • Manages the resources required to execute these plans by developing, communicating, and tracking project schedules, team assignments, and budgets.

  • Prioritizes own and project team’s work. Anticipates consequences of actions, potential problems, or opportunities for change. Sets and meets realistic deadlines. Forecasts changes and communicates current and projected issues.

  • Ensures a high level of fiscal control and accountability for project budget. Creates within the team a shared focus on the importance of achieving results.

  • Creates work standards for project. Establishes and defines roles and responsibilities, specific outcomes, and clear measures for quality and success of the team.

  • Creates various levels of documentation at each stage of the project with input from others. Understands and utilizes advanced features of Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, Visio, Project, and SharePoint.

  • Develops and maintains SharePoint sites. Proposes changes to project management methodologies, frameworks, and best practices for continuous process improvement.

  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus including pre-storm preparation, post-storm clean-up and replacement of stored goods to ready campus for operation after a storm; or other services assigned.
