As Senior IT Project Manager for our Online Initiative, you’ll manage the scope, resources, time, cost, risk, quality and communications for the entire lifecycle of this project.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Project Management:

  • Overall management of projects, often several concurrently that are critical to OIT's business operations and overall mission. 

  • Develop detailed project schedule, timeline, resource requirements, and budget.

  • Coordinate efforts of project members to stay on schedule and accomplish defined objectives.

  • Produce regular status reports that include project milestone status, risks, issues and concerns, and recommendations for action to remain on schedule.

  • Anticipate issues and proactively develop contingency plans.

  • Facilitate communication with project sponsors, stakeholders, team members, constituents, service and support personnel, and management by creating and executing a communication plan in coordination with the OIT PR/communications manager. 

Project Delivery

  • Set or revise initial project schedules based on the best information currently available (team task estimates, prioritization, scope, resource availability, etc.) and then effectively manage the schedules through the length of the project 

  • Whenever uncontrollable events impact existing schedules, have realistic re-planned dates as quickly as possible. 

  • Always maintain current project projected release / deployment / implementation dates based on progress to date and best available resource and task estimates. 

Project Status -- Deliver timely and accurate project status to OIT and project stakeholders and attend the biweekly OIT PMO Project Status Meetings.

This is a 3-year appointment. While it may easily be the case that this appointment becomes ongoing, for the present we have dedicated funds only for the first 3 years.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field. A combination of education and relevant experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

  • 5+ years of project management experience that includes a combination of the following:

    • Managing IT projects through their entire life cycle, including successful completion and closeout.

    • Managing multiple concurrent projects.

    • Staffing and managing project resources in a weak matrix organization.

    • Client and vendor management.

    • Risk Management and Issues Resolution.

    • Familiarity with a variety of SDLC's used for IT projects including Agile development (Scrum, etc).

What You Will Need

  • Ability to manage scope, time and resources using standard commercially available tools such as MS Project, Primavera, Smartsheet, OmniPlan, TeamDynamix, etc. 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

  • Knowledge and expertise in the application of project management methodologies. 

  • Very strong interpersonal skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

  • Experience with or demonstrated understanding of the distributed administrative nature of a large research university.

  • Experience managing information technology projects that produce enterprise class products and services.

  • Formal training in conflict resolution and/or root cause analysis is desirable.

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology or a related field.
