Job Summary / Basic Function:

The Associate Vice President for UTECH Services is responsible for providing overall leadership, vision, strategy, management, and accountability for campus-wide academic and administrative information technology services, including the coordination of all aspects of information technology in academic and administrative computing, network services, distance learning, user support, and telecommunications. The Associate Vice President for UTECH Services directs and manages the computing services and information technology units and ensures that the infrastructure and applications provide an environment that is responsive to client needs. The position is strongly focused on ensuring a high quality, transparent, and client service oriented organization. This individual must have a keen awareness of emerging trends in information technology within higher education and a vision in how to apply them in our traditional on-campus setting as well as in our global online educational environment.  

Essential responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Works closely with the Vice President for Administration and Finance, to establish institutional technology priorities and technology management strategies that support the University's mission and long-range plans. 
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement all technology policies and programs and long-range and financial planning for technology solutions that are secure, stable, accessible and affordable. 

  • Lead an energetic and innovative IT staff in the operation of administrative support services, network technology and user support services in collaboration with faculty, students, administration, and campus advisory groups and technology providers. These units are the institution's resources for administrative computing, applications support, applications development, and data management. 

  • Demonstrate a successful record of implementation and management of emerging technologies, such as student information systems (SIS) and customer relationship management (CRM). 

  • Plan, develop, administer, and monitor the UTECH Service departmental budget. Recommend technology-related budget priorities that address the needs of all campus constituencies. 

  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels for all services, manage assigned staff; develop and implement work standards; implement performance management measures; provide for training of staff; provide project planning; assign work duties as appropriate. 

  • Chair and participate in ad-hoc committees to establish policies and set standards for implementation and use of technology; represent the University in matters pertaining to functional area. 

  • Maintain and mature the Banner student information system in all functional areas on campus. 

  • Show experience in project planning and management 

  • Possess knowledge of information technology trends and applications, and of scholarly communication patterns 

  • Explain experience in working effectively in a team environment 

  • Demonstrate ability to lead and collaborate with colleagues 

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong team-building skills, and the capacity to thrive and lead others in a rapidly changing environment. 

Starting Salary Range - $96,657 to $141,00 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum of Education / Training:

A master's degree in information systems, computer science or related field from an accredited university is required, along with progressive advancement in the Information Technology field, with the current position held being that of Director for Information Technology or a similar position. The successful candidate should have a minimum of eight years of progressive experience within the information technology field, preferably within higher education. Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) is highly desired.
