We are seeking  a Director of Design, Engineering and Educational Technology; a full-time, 12 month, exempt position. The ideal candidate has a strong educational background, demonstrated technical acumen, advanced teaching skills, and a passion for working with young people. This candidate will possess knowledge of current STEAM practices, coding, computer science and robotics to support our innovative pedagogy. Candidates should also have a proven record of collaborative teamwork with a nuanced understanding of interpersonal relations, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a healthy sense of humor. A vision for the direction of a STEAM based program are necessary for success in this position.

Purpose Statement

The Director of Design, Engineering and Educational Technology collaborates as part of a team with the school level Directors, the Director of Information Technology, IT staff, and Faculty to research, recommend, and implement existing and emerging facets of a robust STEAM program.   This position co-reports to the Associate Director of Teaching and Learning and the Director of Information Technology.
This person is responsible for the implementation, support, and effective use of educational technologies in all aspects of the educational process at San Domenico.  These responsibilities include researching, piloting, promoting, and providing training in existing and emerging technologies that benefit student learning and program outcomes.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will support and has technical knowledge about Canvas (LMS). Hands-on experience with technology in an educational setting is required. A minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience in independent schools and a graduate degree in a related field are preferred.

Primary responsibilities of a Director of Design, Engineering and Educational Technology include:

K-12 Computer Science Principles/Coding/Robotics:

  • Design and implement STEAM learning opportunities that integrate with existing curriculum and instruction, K-12.

  • Assess, refine and implement a strategic vision for Computer Science Principles/Coding/Robotics as part of our school’s overall STEAM education.

    • Possibly teach one section of Computer Science or Engineering in our high school

  • Work closely with the school level directors to evaluate curriculum and pedagogy, and coordinate the overall STEAM teaching and learning program.

  • Design, implement, and deliver major professional development and growth experiences for faculty in areas of design, engineering, and educational technology supporting them in the exploration of innovative and purposeful STEAM focused integration.

  • Evaluate new technologies and stay current with emerging trends and best practices in STEAM by participating in technology-related professional development opportunities including self-study, workshops, and conferences on school, district, state, and national levels.

  • Communicate STEAM initiatives and progress with families.

K-12 Technology Integration:

  • Educate faculty and students about current technological tools and applications and teach the skills necessary for teachers and students to become proficient users of technology. This include both group trainings and one-on-one tutorials.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to redefine curriculum by integrating technology.

  • Develop and teach digital skills and citizenship curriculum to teachers and students.

  • Enthusiastically champion successes of students and faculty in their technology achievements.

  • Foster a culture of empowered self-help and troubleshooting.

  • Assess teacher progress with tech goals and skill mastery.

  • Attend school level and grade level meetings regularly to understand ongoing projects, curriculum, and issues throughout the school,

  • Collaborate with LS, MS, and US Tech Coordinators, Associate Director of Teaching and Learning and the Director of Information Technology to ensure consistency and continuity across school levels.

  • 3d Lab (Makerspace):

  • Create a warm and welcoming learning environment for students and families; communicate with parents and family members as needed.

  • Implement safe and effective classroom management routines and expectations for all students using the 3d Lab.

  • Develop, launch and supervise student managers; delegating specific responsibilities, collaborating on planned challenges, teaching proper tool and equipment management.

  • Orient teachers and students to any new, low or high tech capabilities from the 3d Lab.

  • Oversee, organize, manage and reorder materials, supplies, equipment, arrangement and check-out schedule to faculty.

  • Oversee 3d Lab budget

Curriculum Integration/Teaching:

  • Supports Canvas (learning management system) integration and training for teachers and students

  • Work closely with School Level Directors and Department Chairs to ensure that annual technology initiatives/goals are regularly evaluated and are consistent with departmental goals and the School’s mission.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with team members and the Director of Teaching and Learning to offer targeted and relevant professional development opportunities, including but not limited to facilitating a learning group.

  • Develop and implement student skills benchmarks concurrent with ISTE NETS for Students, including formative assessment to measure the benchmark’s effectiveness

  • Support the integration of coding at all school levels.

  • Teach or co-teach classes, lessons, and/or extracurricular offerings as directed

  • Leadership and Innovation:

  • Lead technology-related committees that are comprised of administration, faculty and staff

  • Facilitate the implementation of long-term strategic initiatives, such as blended learning, digital scholarship & citizenship, to create personalized learning experiences that focus on the development of effective technology skills in every content area and that are continuous, inside and outside of the school's walls

  • Support the effective use of technology resources that collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in education, technology, or related field is required; graduate degree preferred

  • At least 3-5 years experience as a classroom teacher preferred

  • Experience coaching teachers and/or leading professional development workshops.

  • Basic computer hardware and software (Mac OS and iOS)

  • Fluent in G Suite / Google Apps for Education

  • Familiarity with PowerSchool (SIS) and Canvas (LMS)

Salary commensurate with experience, plus an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/matching 403b retirement plan, daily lunch.
