General Description

The University of Montevallo, Alabama’s Public Liberal Arts College, invites applications for the 12-month, tenure-track position of Systems and Digital Services Librarian. The individual in this position will provide leadership in planning, implementing, and administering a broad range of library systems and web services that support digital literacy and enhance the library user experience.

  1. Serve as administrator for the library’s systems and provide leadership, training, and support for these systems.

  2. Serve as primary developer and administrator for the library website (in collaboration with Information Services & Technology), web applications, social media, and mobile interfaces.

  3. Serve as technical expert and manage all training and development on the library information systems, web services, and digital initiatives.

  4. Support digital literacy initiatives in the classroom.

  5. Lead assessment of library systems and web development including end user needs as they relate to emerging technologies, library systems, social media etc.

  6. Partner with library colleagues and campus faculty to improve the discoverability of library resources.

  7. Lead colleagues in the design and delivery of library services and instruction to students and faculty in distance education courses.

  8. Maintain collegial relationships with Information Services & Technology staff as well as with off-campus technology vendors and service providers.

  9. Draft policies, procedures, and practices related to library systems, web development, and emerging technologies for approval by appropriate stakeholders.

  10. Prepare reports for both internal and external use that analyze data on library systems, web services, databases, and emerging technologies.

  11. Teach in the information literacy program for a wide variety of disciplines, courses, and subjects as needed.

  12. Participate in a cycle of continuous evaluation and improvement of library services.

  13. Participate in library strategic planning.

  14. Participate in collection development decisions.

  15. Participate in reference service including night and Sunday hours as needed.

  16. Serve on Library and University committees.

  17. Engage in scholarly research with the aim of achieving a sustained body of high-quality work.

  18. Perform other professional duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties

Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned. The individual holding this position will serve as a representative of the University and, as such, shall promote a positive impression by demonstrating a collegial and professional customer-service approach at all times.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of University operations, services and policies.

  • Knowledge of library systems, web services, and standards (such as Koha, OCLC services, Tipasa, EZProxy, Springshare, and MARC).

  • Knowledge of web standards (such as HTML, Java CSS, SQL).

  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary library practices, trends, and emerging technologies.

  • Experience developing digital library projects (using programs such as DAMS and CMS).

Additional Duties

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:
Offer support for special events hosted by the library and assist in weeding projects.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program.  
Two years of related experience.
