Overview: Quinnipiac University's Office of Information Services seeks applications for Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In this role, you will provide guidance and strategic direction to the executive team of the University relating to information security matters. Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Information Technology Officer, the CISO develops and maintains strategic and operational responsibility for insuring that cyber security best practices are applied as appropriate to the University. The CISO maintains a highly visible profile in the University and works closely with University, State, Local and Federal agencies in matters of mutual interest.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance on information security to the executive team and all university stakeholders, including students, on cyber security related matters

  • Recommend strategies and practices to ensure that effective and current information security practices are in place

  • Provide guidance and consultations and maintain a close working relationship with University constituents, with an emphasis on the Office of Human Resources and Department of Public Safety

  • Assume leadership in working with University Information Services technical staff and the departmental technical teams across the University to plan and implement information security initiatives

  • Develop and lead education and training programs for all University constituents on institutional policy, guidelines, federal and state laws and regulations, and best practices around information security

  • Maintain an active role as a member of the Data Governance Team which often includes review of hardware, software and services being considered for University implementation

  • Ensure that proper information security features are incorporated to support University business needs; provide security requirements to be included in RFP for software or services by working closely with the University legal teams

  • Lead efforts in Risk Assessment by conducting and administering independent audits

  • Works closely with University auditors to insure appropriate policies and procedures are in place

  • Occasional travel is required

  • Other duties as assigned

Education Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Cyber Security is preferred

  • Experience may substitute for some of the above education requirements

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of related experience in the following:
    • Knowledge of current trends and directions of cyber security matters, especially in the higher education industry

    • Working knowledge and hands on experience with cyber security related software applications
    • Experienced at providing training programs

    • Strong business acumen and ability to create and evaluate new software/security products and vendor proposals

  • CISO certifications

  • The ability to achieve goals through influence, collaboration and working closely with others

  • Strategic thinking skills to develop thoughtful process and procedures within the workflow of the higher education industry

  • Ability to maintain highest degree of personal integrity and maintain high standards personally and professionally.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Valid driver's license

    • Occasional travel is required for the position

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and/or a commitment to diversity and inclusion
