Job Description

Job Title: Coordinator of Technology Services (reports to Superintendent)

Contract Term: 12 Months

Yearly Salary: Commensurate upon education and experience

Primary Purpose: Serves on the administrative team and advises on issues of technology as it relates to integration of technology into the management of the curriculum and instructional practices provided to students. This coordinator will oversee areas that rely on technology such as security, communications, and copy and print services. In addition, the Coordinator of Technology Services collaborates with other directors, principals, and curriculum leaders in the effort to develop programming to meet the needs of all students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for Bennington Public Schools in all facets of technology issues associated with the District.

  • Provide leadership for using technology to carry out the District’s mission in the areas of teaching and learning.

  • Provide leadership for the District in making decisions and implementing changes in the integration of technology into the curriculum to support achievement for all students.

  • Forecast needs, condition, and availability of resources needed to implement district instructional use of computers and mobile devices.

  • Prepare an annual budget for hardware, software, and subscriptions to services adopted by the District.

  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of District Erate applications.

  • Oversee hardware and software selection.

  • Develop Requests for Information (RFI) and Requests for Proposal (RFP) for major purchases for the district.

  • Negotiate with vendors regarding RFPs, contracts, pricing and implementation of services – equipment and installation.

  • Direct the installation of technology systems and tools (e.g. hardware, software, systems, wiring, specialized applications and tools) for the purpose of ensuring the safe, timely and efficient installation of technology equipment and services.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional technology.

  • Monitor the District’s Acceptable Use Policy and propose changes as needed.

  • Guide and direct the District Technology Committee.

  • Stay current and provide information and research on educational technology practices.

  • Coordinate the use of technology to support instructional programs.

  • Assist staff members in the acquisition and integration of technology into the curriculum and instruction provided to students.

  • Provide staff with information as they integrate technology into the curriculum, including training with specific software and hardware applications to assure efficiency and appropriateness for students/staff needs.

  • Provide staff development on supporting instruction with technology.

  • Serve on the district curriculum committee for future plans.

  • Partner with Educational Service Unit #3, the Nebraska Department of Education, and other state, regional, and national entities to support the District’s mission.

  • Coordinate the maintenance, support, and repair of equipment and systems (e.g. servers, telephone systems, printing and duplication devices, intercoms, alarms, surveillance cameras, software applications, network) for the purpose of ensuring that systems are functioning properly and effectively in support of district administrative and educational operations.

  • Supervises assigned technology staff (e.g. hiring recommendations, interviewing, training, evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational requirements.

Education/Certification:

  • Degree in Education Technology or Computer Science or work-related experience that would qualify one for the position. Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology or related field is preferred but not required.

  • Teaching certificate/Master’s Degree preferred but not required. Equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Additional certifications and endorsements related to education technology tools preferred but not required.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Experience with integration of technology into the curriculum including:

  • Teaching utilizing technology

  • Knowledge of instructional design and curriculum development utilizing technology

  • Information literacy proficiency

  • Administrative and leadership competency

  • Knowledge of appropriate resources, organizations, and vendors relative to software and hardware availability

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and its application to the school setting.

  • Working knowledge of Windows Operating System desktop and servers and Google Apps Administration

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

    • After hours routine maintenance on district equipment.
