JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), a Spanish immersion school in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Part-time Primary Technology and Design Teacher. This position will work closely with the STEM Integration and Innovation Specialist, Heads of Sections, and Program Coordinators to implement and lead STEM curriculum, and will assist in the creation of Magellan's Innovation Lab. This position will provide technology instruction in multiple STEM content areas to students from Kindergarten through 3rd Grade. Essential Functions

Promote and advance the use of technology demonstrating expertise in teaching technology across grade levels and familiarity with Makerspace tools.

Collaborate with STEM Integration and Innovation Specialist, school pedagogical team (PLT), librarians and technology teachers in developing and implementing the school's technology and Information Digital Literacy (IDL) plans.

Implement lesson/activity plans guided by the daily schedule.

Assist in maintaining and operating Innovation Lab.

Verbally present information clearly and respond to questions from children, parents, colleagues, administrators, and visitors.

Lead with a growth mindset. Guide peers through the innovation process and challenge the usual ways of thinking.

Foster a safe and open team environment.

Encourage a culture of idea generation, maximizing creativity and engagement.

Model use and teaching of innovation tools and methodologies.

Mentor others in innovation.

Act as a sounding board for teachers to test and explore new solutions and options, and give advice based on their experience.

Clarify standards, and next steps towards innovative educational techniques and technologies.

Prepare, facilitate, and deliver innovation workshops, and/or report on new ideas learned through professional development classes and conferences.

Encourage innovation initiatives.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in technology or educational field (Masters preferred).

Five years of teaching experience required.

Experience working and inspiring children of varied skill levels from K-3rd, as well as the ability to support Preschool age students.
Technical Skill Requirements
-
High proficiency with Apple computers and other operating systems.
-
Proficiency in office productivity software including Google Drive, Apple Productivity Suite, and Microsoft Office.

Experience with digital media creation and publishing including editing video, photography, graphics and basic web design.

Ability to learn new software and hardware in a timely fashion and troubleshoot when necessary.

Familiarity with coding and robotics systems and software including Scratch, LEGO EV3, LEGO WeDo, and Hummingbird Robotics.

Experience with digital fabrication including 3D modeling software, additive 3D printing, and laser cutting.

Comfortable with a variety of hand and power tools, and can model safe and careful use.

Physical Demands

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position will be scheduled for under 30 hours a week. The candidate must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with Monday meetings until 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday meetings until 4:30 p.m. Some travel may be expected and weekend availability for events, though this is rare.
Travel
Travel in the form of a regular commute between campuses (within 5 miles of each other) is required. Must have reliable transportation. Some out-of-area travel may be expected, but is not common.
Salary and Benefits
$30,000 to $35,000 depending on experience (70% FTE). This position is funded by a 3-year Innovation grant from a generous donor, and is contingent upon availability of funds. The grant performance period is from August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2020. The position may be eliminated once the grant funding has been exhausted. This position is part-time and does not qualify for benefits at this time.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9. You will be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Documents need to be presented no later than the third day of employment. Failure to do so will result in loss of employment at the school.
